I'm kinda used to moving away from friends, personally. Well, as much as one can actually get used to it. My parents moved me around like mad when I was younger, so now I get this deep sense of dread in the pit of my stomach any time it seems like I might be packing things up and rolling out of town. It wouldn't matter if I was moving to a freakin' mansion at this point, I'd still hate the act of moving itself. It's ingrained. And as to keeping in touch... I dunno, maybe I just attract flaky people, but none of my friends ever seem to manage. I'm still in regular contact with, like, one friend from my old group. I wrote postcards and everything after I first left, and nothin'. Sheesh. Ah well, I suppose moving is also a good way of finding out who in a circle of friends qualifies as the "fair weather" sort...
And ah. There you brought up the main issue: "as long as everyone on the block is ok with it"... yeeeeah, probably not so much. Nice elderly couple directly across the street might not approve. Not only that, but the local law enforcement here is kinda a**l about stuff. See, it stems from the fact that my town is, primarily, a tourist trap by design. During the summer, when there are tons of tourists, there is an appropriate number of police to match. But during the rest of the year, there is a definite surplus of cops. Who look a lot harder than is usually necessary for something to do... -_-
When I move though, I think I'll definitely keep the block party idea on the back-burner. Sounds like a perfect way to make friends with the new neighbours. As it is, I'd probably be shooting myself in the foot if I made a bunch of friends right now anyway. I mean, I'd end up moving away from them not that long after. Which would be sad. I hate moving away from friends. crying
As for throwing a block party, that's a very novel idea. Unfortunately, another issue I have is that... well, how do I say this? The majority of the people in my neighbourhood I wouldn't want to add to my friend base, haha. Sad to say, but I live in kind of a crap area. I think what would happen if I went to the effort of throwing a block party would be this: A bunch of people would show up with no costumes, not even realizing it's Halloween. They'd just be looking for free booze. Shortly thereafter, country music would somehow start blaring. Throw in some line-dancing, drunken brawling, possibly the local SWAT team showing up aaaaand.... though it might be amusing to watch from afar, that's not exactly my idea of a Halloween party, haha.
Oh well, I plan on moving sometime in May. Maybe I'll take your suggestion to wherever I end up moving. Leaning towards the Washington area right now. Do you have to file for a permit for a block party, or what? You need some sort of documentation, yeah?
But anyway, I wish you luck with your own Halloween plans. Sorry to hear about you losing your friend-base as well, but hey, at least you probably have a much better selection of people to start a new one with, yeah? ^_^ I 'd also wish you luck with your costume, but I don't think you'll need it. Just give the liquid latex a trial run before the 31st and you'll be good to go! Just don't get it on your clothes, it's a pain in the butt to get out of fabric and whatnot...
As for a party, eh. I wish. As much as I love Halloween parties myself, I don't really know anyone in this area. I moved here a while back and just haven't managed to get a quality friend-base goin'. Despite all my other preparations, I have no idea what I'm going to do on the 31st. Kinda sad, eh?
But yeah, liquid latex rocks AND rolls. I used it for my first zombie walk, where I went as a zombie clown. Hee. I was their mascot for a while ^.^
As for me, yep! Halloween is kind of a huge thing for me, so I had my costume planned out about three months ago, haha. I'm going as an evil ventriloquist's dummy. Complete with hand-made mask, with moving jaw, and beat up and patched together tuxedo. Mwaha.
Speaking of which, you had already decided upon sexy AND scary, eh? Nice. I love making costumes, personally. Not only is it more fun, but c'mon... who wants a mass-produced, flimsy, piece of crap anyway? Especially since you'd probably see like five other people wearing the same thing. Psh. Anyway, what did you have in mind, if you don't mind my asking?
Oh! And why choose between one or the other? Why not go as sexy AND scary? ^_^
^.^
I sent the trade :3
