Contrary to most of the Shi'ar, I Deathbird has atavistic features, being much more similar to my ancestors than, for instance, my younger siblings Lilandra and D'Ken. I have been described as an "evolutionary throwback".

Although I was the eldest of the Neramani siblings, I was denied the right to rule the Shi'ar Empire, and D'Ken was named emperor. Due to my crimes against the state, including the murder of my father the emperor, I was exiled to the outer space.

I reached Earth trying to get some supplies for my ship, and I encountered superheroes Ms Marvel and Hawkeye, and allied myself with MODOK. Later, I escaped from Earth.

Wanting the throne, I rebelled against D'Ken, who was emperor at the time, and allied myself with the Brood to usurp him and, later, Lilandra (who succeeded D'Ken). I eventually usurped the throne and became empress of Shi'ar, although I had to face many rebellions. A group of Skrulls maimed my wings and forced me to abdicate in their favor.

I sought the help of Lilandra's allies the X-Men but, once the Skrulls were removed from the throne, I chose not to sit on it, and I abdicated again in favor of Lilandra. Due to my surprisingly good job while reigning, once the Kree-Shi'ar War was over, Lilandra named me viceroy of the recently annexed Kree Empire.

Powers
As a pure breed Shi'ar she possesses strength, endurance and resistance to injury higher than humans.
