See, I'd go on a big spiel about how it is no one else's decision but my own to alter my neurochemistry. I'd go on to explain that for humans have been using natural sources to do so since the dawn of our species. But that's a bit of a tired argument, isn't it? I don't want to bore anyone. If you're like me, too, you probably have short attention spans ninety-nine percent of the time, and need cold, hard facts before you, here's a few numbers that might help you get into the conversation:

29. That's the approximate number of All City NRG (produced by Arizona drink company) cans it would take to effectively kill my girlfriend (she weighs 110 pounds).

360,000. That's the number of micrograms of one (of two-in medical history) documented LSD overdoses. That's also 900 times the strongest dose I've ever taken.

430,000. Estimated number of deaths caused by tobacco-a legal substance (or drug, as some people seem keen on calling this and that)-per year.

0. Number of cannabis-only deaths. I know this is a tiring thing to hear over and over, but you really have to take that in. People can (and have) overdose on caffeine. People can even die from nicotine overdose. But you CAN NOT DIE FROM ONLY CANNABIS.

Now that I've got your attention, allow me to state my points:

A. Prohibition solves NOTHING. People who support it support a waste of taxpayer's money (to incarcerate other taxpayers, in a funny twist of irony) and help to fuel the black market that comes with prohibition. With regulation (even taxation if the wannabe powers-that-be want) and PROPER education, we can effectively end this ridiculous Drug War. It has no redeeming value whatsoever. Honestly; submit a reason why you think America's crusade against "drugs" should continue.

B. Marijuana can have detrimental effects. I'm not going to debate this. Psychological addiction can develop after regular use, and five to ten percent of people who try cannabis will become daily smokers. Most also drop this by age 30. Despite what people may think, too, you CAN develop syptoms of physical addiction from constant cannabis use.

What people have to realize is that this is all the result of the unwise use of this beautiful plant. I've been there; you smoke a joint or two on the weekends, then you buy a bong (and use it a little more), then you're smoking three blunts of K-Town a day before school, during lunch, and after school before work. Go home, pass out, and repeat.

Then I discovered what I was doing; I was taking this awe-inspiring creation of our Lord God for granted. I gave away my various smoking vessels, carved a chillum out of soapstone (a very fun and personal experience), and didn't consume cannabis for a long time. When the time came, I bought a decent amount of high potency sativa, went to a big festival, and smoked it in a circle of friends (and random passersby). I grew emotionally, spiritually, and psychologically that day. I swam in a beautiful lake, ate an organic fruit medley (delicious doesn't come close to describing it), danced, laughed, loved, got half-naked (which was new, considering my raging self-loathing), and even when the effects of that female wore off, I was still smiling at creation and the wonderful people who walk among it. To this day, I don't take Mary for granted, and I never will.

The day I let any man or woman tell me that that is wrong and I can't do it, is the day I sign away all of my rights as a child of God.

C. Completely ignoring the medicinal benefits of psychedelics, which I can go on about for hours (including research that crack-addicted females find it easier to kick the habit with cannabis, LSD's massive potential for treating alcoholism, ibogaine's powerful opiate-addiction treatment, cannabis' nausea-quashing effects, etc.), even setting aside the legal and civil rights angle, we should look at the spiritual implications of the Drug War (a war on citizens).
