About

I'm Seth.

I'm [(current year) minus 1985]. Do the math.
I'm a really good cook. It's nerdtastic.
I lead a pretty busy life as a graphic designer and copywriter.
I read a lot. I like people who read too.
I dabble in Spanish. And by Spanish, I mean Lorca and Neruda.
I live in the Central Time Zone in the U.S.
Uh, and I'm really, really bad at small talk online. If you want to know something, you should probably just ask.

***

I've just now created a profile for myself as a person on Gaia, but I've roleplayed on and off Gaia for years now. Check out my journal entries for links to my character profiles/mule avatars.

Want to roleplay with me? Here are few things you might want to know.

First and MOST IMPORTANT: I don't judge based on your literacy level, and I may come across as a hardcase but I'm pretty patient and accepting. Don't ever be afraid to roleplay with me because you think you're "bad" or "not good enough." The way I see it, the only "BAD" roleplayer is the one who consistently gives a poor effort, never tries to improve, and whose characters never develop, and that can happen no matter how many paragraphs someone can write or how well they can spell. I also believe firmly that we all learn from somebody, and you never know who is going to be your teacher. Though we may not write at the same level, I stand to learn just as much from you about my style, my character, or my improv skills as you may learn from me. Ideally, we'll get comfortable enough to give constructive criticism and compliments alike.

That said....

My style:
--verbose. Detailed. Metaphors and similes.
--I generally choose to play Literate to Lit Advanced in a fast-moving thread. I can, have, and do play above that level, but for the most part, I believe that posting shouldn't be a p***s-waggling contest: if a succinct post is well-written and can do the job of getting to the point, I find that preferrable to a long rambling one. If you can manage that, then feel free to Mark Twain the hell out of it. Just don't make a habit out of it.
--I prefer to use a "Leapfrog" style of responding to posts: that is, to establish a posting cycle and wait your turn to respond. It keeps things from getting complicated or losing track of what's happening. Though I understand that life (and internet connection) is unpredictable, I don't like it though when people routinely jump out of RP in the middle with no explanation. If this happens, I'll give you a "waiting" post, where my character dicks around for a paragraph or two and gives you time to jump back in, but if you don't say anything and you don't post? Then my character moves on, and they'll respond to your character in the future accordingly, depending on where they were in the conversation and what their view of your character is.

My Characters:
--I extensively research for my characters. Though I pride myself on playing the character in such a way that reveals their profiles throughout action, reading the profile may be useful to you as a player, depending on your character.
--I like inventiveness and resourcefulness in the people I play with, who know their characters. I try to offer the same.
--You'll notice that out and about in the freeform forums, I play a lot of characters who are from a Demon heritage. For the record, no, they aren't that ridiculous excuse for a D&D upgrade otherwise known as Tieflings. No, they don't go around "wavin' teh pitchforks" or have sultry eyes and omnipotence or any such nonsense. No, they aren't inherently malicious or evil or fallen for no good reason. Basically, for these characters, being Demon is like being Black, or White, or Red, or Yellow: it's a race, sure, but they didn't have a lot of choice about it and now they're just doing the best with what they got, just like anyone else. That said, no, I don't exclusively play Demons. But if I'm throwing together a basic character for a general thread with no limitations, then chances are, you'll get one.

My Locales:
--I am generally found in the general forums. I like fresh blood in a roleplay environment; it keeps things interesting. And I'm not the sort to limit my characters to "one thread." Chances are, even after they've known each other for a while, my character has friends from other roleplayers that your character has never even met. Because, you know, real people are like that.
--I'll RP within any environment/scenario where I can justify my character being there. I've roleplayed "in" taverns, bars, cars, laundromats, trees, phone booths, boats, dreams, memories, and any number of other unusual places, but my character won't show up in the most mundane of places if there's no good reason for them to be there. On my end, I'm good at finding those reasons. On your end, I want you to challenge me to be resourceful.
--I am difficult to persuade into a long-term one x one. It's not impossible, and I encourage you to try, but keep in mind I prefer my independence to maintaining a roleplay that feels like a chore because it's stagnant. Don't be afraid to ask, though, honestly; I'm pretty open to short one x ones.
--I'm not adverse to guilds, and if you think you have a good fit for me, feel free to send me an invite. That said, I'm pretty picky, because I want a good experience where I give my best effort. If I don't think I can provide both, I'll decline, and sometimes that's strictly based on my personal life and not the Guild itself.
--I generally don't play in threads that have preset world rules or character niches. Since I do spend, typically, a week creating a new character, it has to be pretty damn interesting scenario for me to want to invest that time to create a character tailored specifically for a world thread that may or may not sizzle out. That said, I've participated in some pretty damn interesting threads, so....

My Preferences:
--Contemporary Fantasy. ...have you ever read Charles de Lint?
--Magic Realism
--I tend to play what I know: guys. Not that I won't play a female character. Just that I haven't had a good enough reason to do it lately.
--loose genres rather than canon
--original characters
--generally male x female, sometimes male x male. Either way, they have to be worth the effort.

Oh, man. You'd be a blast to role-play with.
I posted in the Two-Moon Tavern about eight pages back,
and though I'm waiting for somebody to reply, but I'd totally
love for Max and Lethe to meet-up. -Geeks out-
