You wake up at Seatac, SFO, LAX. You wake up at O'Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, BWI. Pacific, mountain, central. Lose an hour, gain an hour. This is your life, and it's ending one minute at a time.
Well... the not so secret reason I'll quit teaching is I hate kids no... It's more I'm not really suited for teaching I think. I tend to get impatient too easily and have a selfish streak. With those habits, it's really hard to sit there and watch over kids and see them for their true selves. Which... tends to lead to being one of the worst types of teachers. I also prefer to learn new things. As a teacher, you spend so much time covering the same material, you just become a robot performing the same trick in a never ending rut. That's not my dream job in any sense. It's cool though... I'll enjoy what I do and then finish up next year.
After that...? Maybe I'll stay in Japan... maybe I'll make like a banana and split. Depends on jobs and what's out there, I guess. I'm applying to a school for interpretation in Tokyo though, and other jobs that I've been interested in here in Japan (already starting to do background research on companies and what not so I'll be ready for interviews when those hopefully come.) I'm also applying to places in America and the UK. I know I'm not planning on going back to Utah (where my folks live), as there wasn't much for me there... but I don't know where I'll end up. It feels like I'm leaving the comfort of uni all over again. So many choices that it's hard to whittle everything down. Hahah....;;;
Tokyo? Very cool! What places did you sightsee at in Tokyo? Harajuku, Shinjuku type stuff? Did you get out to Kamakura or Enoshima? (The Enoshima Electric Train - Enoden - is AWESOME! Kinda cold in winter tho...) Kyushu is a nice place. I love Fukuoka because it's not SO urban that I start to hate people all over... but big enough that I don't feel like I'm all alone in a fishing town. Okinawa... is fun. It doesn't feel like you're in Japan though because it's just a meld of all these different cultures. I'd love to go back there to spend more time seeing sights. I went with my teachers for an overnight trip (2 days only) and it felt like a whirlwind school trip. Taking time to see places or go to the beach and go diving would be more fun.
I'm teaching in a small town called Karatsu, on Kyushuu island near Fukuoka. I hope to find a permanent job after this ends, but that might take me back to Tokyo for interpretation lessons or something. To be honest I don't think I can continue teaching forever. And relatively speaking... we are old on gaia (dear lord i almost wrote gold on aia. i AM old.)
what took you to tokyo if you don't mind me asking?
Oooh!!! Graduation!!!! Nice. I do still teach in Japan. Just got back to my house here after a short trip back to the states to see the family. It's weird to be on gaia after so long though.
OH, well, I'm glad I could help spread the good news. xD But yessss I love RP and I saw yours with Sai and loved your writing, so I look forward to it! n__n
