For awhile the color remained on the lady's cheek, deep red as she fussed over the old woman's misinformed conclusion, it was true that Vittoria did have a great love once, the Grim Reaper as one would so have it, though he wasn't bones shrouded in black mourning cloth contrary to popular belief, but skin and soul like her very own, but what was shared, was lost. It was no surprise Curtis would have been a subject of conversation, Vittoria had spoke fondly of him in the past, she just had hoped it wouldn't have flowered into discussion, especially not while he was standing in the same room! "--We're not here to discuss that, let's get to work..." It didn't take a genius to spot Curtis's discomfort around the group of gathered strangers, ( or maybe it was the overwhelming mixture of scents, she had requested those present refrain from using perfumes and aftershave) and so Vittoria would add, perhaps to ease him slightly, "--They're here to participate in the Seance, the more bodies there are the louder the chant, the better chance we have to draw Bartholomew out of hiding..." and he'd speak once more, "--But did you say YOU would be his host? Is that safe? It sounds awfully ...messy... To have someone else there." she would nod, hands folded over one another, "--My unique... Genetic background will make it a bit more difficult for Bartholomew to kill me, or possess me for that matter. Besides..." she continued, bravely... "--This is my endeavor, I won't allow anyone to take that risk on my behalf," and so it was set, all in place. With the lights dimmed, candles lit, they would all take their places surrounding the table, just enough seats for everyone present. Sitting within the center of the table, a hairbrush that had once belonged to Bartholomew, Everyone present reached out and clasped hands, although Vittoria's wrists would be bound to the arms of the chair, for precaution, "--Begin the chant..." and the group would begin to repeat Bartholomew's name, over and over again, while Vittoria act as the conduit, "--We're here this evening calling upon Bartholomew Wolfram, we ask that you show yourself to us, we demand it, I invite you..." at first nothing appeared to happen, possibly giving skeptics a chuckle, a charlatans game, it would be repeated, again but halfway through the third chant, Vittoria suddenly jerked back, launched forward, head rolling until it hung limp, suddenly Agatha began asking questions... "--Vittoria, are you ok?""--No." Vi replied flatly, voice retaining a gritty almost bone crunching howl, garbled and snakelike, "--That traitorous b***h isn't here right now...""--Then who is here?""--You know." they needed absolute dominion, Agatha was wise to these types of callings, strung from a long line of Gypsies, and witches, this was no ordinary walk, "--We know who we called, but another might have answered..." it hissed, speaking as if the reply was painful, "--Bartholomew...to what purpose!?" Agatha wanted to ask why he'd called her traitorous but one could assume being both vampire, was the reason, "--You were laid to rest with an amulet, I want to know where it is...""-No." it replied flatly, "--You don't need it, I do. Tell us.""--You don't, she does... No," (cont.)
"--Why falter? I know being called beyond death pains you, Your host is a vampire, she can exist in this bond for centuries, centuries of pain for you. We know what cemetery you've been lain to rest, we WILL find it with or without your help, but until we do, you'll be trapped here... Tormented... Now where is it?" Agatha replied firmly, reasoning with the spirit, who after struggling to break free from the bonds with no avail, hissing and screeching, finally snarled and spoke, staring at the rest of the group, swiveling its gaze to Curtis, "--You, Lupine... You're unlike these others... You have a darkness, let me go..." Agatha stepped in even before Curtis could hope to reply, "--He's not the one talking, you speak to me spirit!""--Curse you Witch! Fine! The amulet is sealed under my tomb, in the northern corner of Ghostwood Cemetery, now leave me be..." and Agatha would smirk, "--Not so hard was it? We release you Spirit...this seance is formally concluded," and then it was gone, the thing lurking under Vittorias skin was no more, stirring she instantly looked at Agatha, "--Did we get it? Was anyone harmed?""--Yes, to getting it, no to being harmed," Vi seemed pleased, and thanked them all while Agatha began to work her binds to free her...
"-Truthfully?" his disbelief made her lips tighten, dainty hands clinching at her side, for a moment she appeared wistful, perhaps a little bothered, but then her expression changed as she laughed, shaking her dark haired head, "--You think I jest? I'm quite serious Sir. But believe me when I say that a Seance wasn't my first means of communication, unfortunately all of Bartholomew's extended family are all dead, not that I would have brought up the possibility of grave robbing, such a grim subject but a necessary evil in this particular case..." having slipped her arm in his she pulled him along the wet nighttime streets, a perfect evening for nocturnal creatures such as they, and soon enough he speak the words she wanted to hear, "--I'll join you, but you should know I haven't the foggiest idea on how a seance is run. I believe in the otherworldly and beyond the grave...but rubbing elbows with the sort is a thought that has never crossed my mind. How do we reach this Bartholomew?""--Very good, I left little room for doubt, luckily this is my forte, shall we?" directing him to the small shop very suddenly to the left of them, Vittoria ignored the 'closed' sign and gently knocked on the door, her attention once again on Curtis as she fold her arms across her chest, "--Now that I won't fear to blow your cover, how have you been? Anything new since we last spoke?" only a moments time would be spared for idle chatter before the door opened, a small withered face appearing beyond the frame, "--Ah, Miss Vittoria... You've arrived, please..." opening the door further the old woman craned her neck, adjusting her spectacles looking over Curtis... As she let them in, locking the door behind them "--I wasn't aware you were bringing a guest? Your paramour?" Vittoria immediately interjected, blushing a deep red, "--Friends, Agatha..." naturally Vi did find Curtis Attractive, and charming, but it would remain as that... Besides there were other reasons, Dorian for one... Though it seemed more appropriate to hold a seance instead for her old flame for whom she'd not heard no hide nor hair from in years. "--Agatha will be assisting me, will bring me back if our friend Bartholomew doesn't let go..." she explained, heading towards the back of the building as if she had walked it a thousand times. All around them were various curios, ancient talismans, totems, candles and various ingredients, some more obscure beyond rosemary and Thyme then others. It didn't take a genius to guess Agatha was a witch, Brujah or something much like it... "--We'll sit, hands clasped in a circle as we conjure the spirit of Bartholomew using something of his as a conduit, generally an item of personal importance or with his genetics works best, a hairbrush for instance... Serves as a sort of bridge from the underworld to our own, you need only sit and chant his name, I will do the rest... Any questions before we begin?" they would have appeared at the back of the shop, eyes suddenly upon them, a variety of guests all dressed to the nines sitting calmly around a table merely waiting for their host to arrive...
As agreed upon, Vittoria would have quietly left the home, happily taking temporary residency in the Hotel Curtis' mark suggested, ( might have well used it for something) only a quick stop to tie her appetites over, before she had appeared in front of the clock tower as suggested, casually smoothing out her practical ensemble, a far cry from her usual extravagant splendor she preferred. On the street, countless strangers passed, all allowing her to move unassuming through the crowd, until a passing couple stopped to discreetly admire, or perhaps revile her Carmine eyes... She suddenly felt uneasy, and then she heard his voice, "--I hope I didn't keep you waiting too long,""--Oh thank heavens, I was beginning to worry I chased you off with my prospect," he seemed exasperated, or maybe thrilled, she couldn't discern which it was, "--What is it I can do for you Miss Vittoria?" she wouldn't sugar coat it, glancing at the couple who had been quietly watching her she slid her slender arm in his own, and lead him further away from prying ears, "--Do you believe in ghosts, the afterlife? I would hope... Considering our natures. Usually I'm a woman of science, facts over fables... The trinket I need stolen is said to be an amulet, one worn by a vampire long since entombed, appropriately the legend goes that whatever immortal wears it will be immune to the harmful effects of sunlight. Naturally this could all be nothing more then a far flung fable..." she uttered, lowering her head slightly. "--But in the off chance it isn't, I have to try... To walk in the sun again, money is no object for such a prize..." for a moment she was flooded with joy, and then seriousness touched her lovely face, "--The only problem is that I don't know where it is exactly, I know which cemetery, fortune smiles as it is along the outskirts of this city, but not which plot, and when we find the plot... We'll have to..." sighing Vittoria shook her head, "--Positively ghoulish, we'll have to commune with spirits via seance, and then dig up the coffin to which the charm lies, if of course we can get the late owner... Bartholomew to enlighten us on its whereabouts... Thoughts? You must think I'm crazy..." she added with a laugh, shaking her head and holding his gaze. "--If you'd care to accompany me on this curious adventure, name your price, I'll match it."
(( sorry if this post was crap, I'm exhausted but wanted to post something))
Distant moonlight suddenly danced over his ever striking features, washing the lady in familiarity. Smiling contentedly voice rising with joy, he spoke... Voice hushed in careful whisper, "--My! What a pleasant sight!" reaching out, ensnaring her dainty digits in his own he bent his head dusting the tops of her knuckles with a chaste kiss. "--Heavens. I never once doubted your competence, but you worried me. If I had known you were coming in through the window, I'd have aided you." she would have smirked at this, voice hushed... "--Don't forget I'm vampire Sir, scaling a wall through a window is as simple as one would shoo a fly, if... You don't catch me in my usual refinery..." she'd stifle a laugh here, acrobatics in a dress was a little more challenging. Becoming serious once more she nod, "--I figured if you were working you'd require secrecy and discretion, I wasn't about to break your cover. Who is this fellow you're tailing?" the question was casual, if it was on a need to know basis, if he pushed past her question she wouldn't have asked again. Ultimately though he seemed apologetic over the circumstances of their reunion, "--This is awful. I really must apologize. A reunion uttered in whispers and hidden away like thieves was not my intentions. Unbecoming of us both..." and the lady would shrug, a small smile visible on her face, as she paused to look over the decadence of the surrounding room, "--Where else if not here? Our past has always lead us to such curious places, some of them unscrupulous... But Between you and I, any reunion with you wherever our paths take us, is pleasant enough for me..." and so he'd bring up the real point, "--You're quite the strange visitor, but it didn't appear as if you knew that man...what brings you by?" and her carmine eyes would widen, rosy lips pursed as they parted with words, "--That would be important wouldn't it? I came in fact to find you, a contact of mine, gave me the name of another contact I approached who gave me your whereabouts, I must have jarred him into uncertainty because he couldn't quite tell me if you lived here, or were working. I'm dreadfully sorry for the inconvenience my arrival may have caused you, I hadn't wanted to cause such distress, but to be honest, I wasn't certain how best to reach you, and no one else I know seems suited to the task. Frankly, I'd like to hire you for a job of my own... A theft of an item... I can pay of course, money is of little object to me. But I suppose I'll speak further of the details if you're interested when you've accomplished what you arrived here to do. Shall I await you outside? Or meet you elsewhere?" and depending on his answer, she would react in the manner suggested.
"--Hello?" Vittorias smile suddenly faded upon seeing the stranger at the door, eyes widening. So her contact hadn't been exactly forthright, a run around, repayment she supposed for nearly biting his head off, fine...so be it. She'd have to think fast on her toes, thankfully the songstress 'Sweet Vittoria' was woefully adept in the art of deception, this one would be easy enough to fool. "--May I help you Miss?" beyond his voice, she heard a kernel of sound, another familiar directing her to the upper landing, one only her fine tuned hearing could decipher... Curtis? Knowing full well her friends rather unscrupulous line of work, the stage ready actress Vittoria played it off perfectly, in order to not arouse suspicion further, and spoil her friends bounty. Glancing down at the slip of paper and back up at the address on the wall, she appeared bewildered, shocked, "--Oh! Goodness me! Please accept my sincerest apologies, I must be completely turned around..." she added with a mock exasperated laugh, "--I've only recently arrived on ship this evening..." which hadn't been a complete lie, she was aware of the ships charters, "--I was certain this was the Villa for Madame De Launce, but clearly I'm mistaken? Or am I? I'll have to retrace my steps tomorrow morning..." she added off handedly, gaze lowered as if in reflection over her dire circumstance. Returning her gaze back upon him, she seemed nearly ready to turn and depart, but paused, "--I... Please forgive me for my query, but can you please direct me to the nearest Hotel? I would be most grateful...if I haven't already caused you enough trouble for one evening that is..." another laugh, curtsying politely, she did her best to not appear in a hurry, or for that matter nervous...which of course she wasn't. Should he direct her to the nearest locale for slumber, she'd aptly thank him, curtsy once more and appear to depart from view making certain he watched her go. When the coast was clear and all had gone quiet again, she gracefully... In humanely scaled the side of the building, thankful she hadn't for once decided on the copious layers of fabric she often wore, riding trousers were a blessing. Launching silently over the top railing with only the perfected finesse of a night predator, her acute senses tingled, that familiar scent of Cologne, and aftershave lingering faintly in the air, one she recalled her dear friend always smelling of, and then her eyes adjusted and she whispered, "--Is it you?" covertly deciding not to use his name, with such extenuating circumstances...just in case... Vi was no fool...
