DESCRIPTION
At 17 years of age, Miyako still retains the luster and natural beauty of youth, helping with the perception of honor and beauty naturally occurring beside one another. Despite being a natural Scorpion beauty, Miyako is rather unassuming by design, her small stature making her appear rather doll like. A slim woman, Miyako manages to look fairly demure until she lifts her eyes, which seem as cold as the jade color that her eyes take after. Her long silken black hair is often coiffed in the manner of geisha due to her occupation.

MASK
A simple lace black lace mask, the points of lace are decorated with blood red droplets of gemstones, but the eye holes are large enough that the black and striking crimson serve only to highlight her jade green eyes.

As with most children, Miyako’s story begins not with her, but with her family. Conceived just a short year after her paternal clan’s return from exile in the Burning Sands, Miyako is the product of a short marriage between her parents. Her mother, Aiko refused to take part in a family argument which tore her family apart during the Crane Civil war, in which her own fiancée was fighting, over reacted and ran off when her father told her to begone from his sight; no child of his would stand against her father. Traveling to the city of Otasan Uchi, seeking an old school friend, she heard tale of the execution of the Unicorn Clan by Shinjo, making her realize the depth of the damage that a brother could do to another.

But before Aiko could attempt to return home, she met Shosuro Hiro, a charming young man who offered her his protection as well as a way home for no price but that of her company once he’d found out her situation and family. His duties within the courts delayed their departure until after several months, Aiko found she did not want to return to her family and arranged marriage. She was treated as a ward of the Shosuro family within the Scorpion Clan and her identity was only withheld from those without for her own protection or so she believed.

Yet, each day when she spent time with Hiro, he seemed extremely intent on making those plans, until Aiko believed that he was doing the honorable thing, not realizing that her own ‘honor’ had already been destroyed. Finally, the day of truth arrived and Hiro escorted her home. Her father’s anger far from absolved at her behavior, he rants and rages at her, only to be thwarted by Shosuro Hiro who asks that he speak on her behalf.
But due to having stayed with Hiro, her fiancée who had returned from battle for a short leave, at this point refused to believe that she hadn’t been sullied by Hiro who was quite the handsome man easily seen as his mask wrapped around his face from the sides, yet remained open.

Seeing her father and fiancée openly revile her ‘savior’ and protector, she made up her own mind about his worth; he had never once said one vile thing about her family and had proven himself as honorable multiple times during her stay, not once allowing himself to be alone with her in the same room. While her father and fiancée secluded themselves to decide her fate, and to dissolve their marriage contract, Aiko set about seducing Hiro within his own chambers, convinced she would not survive as a Geisha and had no desire to die, even for honor. Hiro allowed her to do so, telling her that he would make her his wife upon their return to Otasan Uchi, they simply had to convince Nobu that it was the most honorable way.

In the morning, Nobu found his daughter packing her bags and told her of his great news; that Noku would still take her to be his wife and that they’d only had to double her bride price. Staring at her father coldly, she stated that he was precisely right, and that Hiro was her lover and she had no interest in Noku. That she in fact, bore Hiro’s child. Outraged once again, Nobu sought out Hiro who was also calmly packing. Demanding satisfaction, he was once again thwarted as Hiro offered the new bride price as well as renewed relations with his own family as his mother had taken a liking to Aiko while she was there.
Bringing Noku and Hiro both into the room, an arrangement was finally struck that appealed to all of the men of the family and kept Aiko’s shame private. Hiro would have a new bride, Noku would have the original bride price and her father would have half. Both were warned however that if they went back upon their word, they would never feel the Scorpion’s sting the day they died. Suitably impressed and yet derisive of the bluntly stated scorpion, they agreed on the condition that any child of the union was Nobu’s to marry off as Aiko should have been. His last word of warning to Aiko was that Hiro would not approve of her childish behavior as Nobu had allowed her to be and would eventually find comfort elsewhere.

Spoiled as Aiko was, she reveled in Hiro’s attention, not seeing the new cold glint of calculation within his eyes as he watched her and wondered. Nobu had told him of what she claimed, and he’d gone along with it. Over the months however, he realized that she’d simply lied to her father and that she carried no child that would have been impossible to be his. A lie that he’d believed she should not be able to do because of her jade green eyes. But his own indiscretions during the months of doubt held their own toll. After a while however, he reconciled with Aiko and their marriage was as passionate as it was the first night, Aiko quickly forgiving him, although she knew nothing about his indiscretions during their estrangement to a girl named Bayushi Sakuri

When his mistress, a Scorpion Geisha, thinking to set herself up in Aiko’s place came to visit and plea with him, she found instead a very pregnant Aiko staring back at her. That was the reason he’d stopped visiting her, but still paid for her comfort as she was also pregnant. But given her own background, she instead turned it to her advantage, telling Aiko of how plushly Hiro had set her up, of his promises. Aiko being a bit naïve believed Bayushi Sakuri and fled once again, this time from her lawful husband.
Arriving home from a late night meeting, Hiro arrived to find Sakuri within his marriage chambers only to be told that his wife had fled from him, giving her blessing to their union when Sakuri had told her of her love for Hiro. Knowing that Sakuri only wanted to use him, he allowed her to finish before telling her that if he ever saw her again, he would have his dogs rip out her intestines for the lies she told.

Following the very obvious trail she’d left, Hiro finally found his wife sprawled across a street, her neck strangled and her body ravaged. Gripped in her hand however was silk from a kimono bearing a pattern worn only by a branch of her own family. Taking her to a doctor, they managed to save Miyako’s life but were unable to save Aiko. Turning his grief and anger at Aiko’s death inward, he focused on ways to ruin Aiko’s family while still maintaining outward honor.

In this, Miyako was a great boon to his plans, even while he treated her very lovingly, he molded her for his revenge upon the Cranes with only one exception. Because of a lie being what ultimately led to the death of Aiko, Miyako was only severely punished for lying until the point to where she could no longer lie except for in regards to her 'rolles'. This fit with Hiro’s superstitions about a green eyed girl lying perfectly.

Other than Hiro’s issue with lying, Miyako was spoiled quite well, even for a girl of her station and it shows. Doting on the child, the only issue arose when Miyako was sent to live with her Crane grandparents at the age of 11 to train for all the things Kikata family believed someone of their lineage deserved. However, by that point, Miyako already had a firm sense of self and had absolutely no use for the Cranes. By the summer of her 12th year, they had given up when even another Scorpion family had changed their mind about a betrothal with Miyako due to her Yugo legacy.

What was not realized however was that her Scorpion guardian had been continuing to train the girl under her father’s orders as a proper Scorpion and Miyako when finally sent back to her family was equal with her peers in her studies and training. This was due to the fact that when Miya-chan had already declared her chosen path in life. She wanted to be a Geisha. This of course, was unacceptable due to her family’s standing, even as a newly un-disgraced Scorpion’s child. So Hiro agreed instead to let her train as a Shosuro Actor as he himself had been and even sending her to her grandparent’s abode was part of her training. This way she would learn some of the same skills that Geisha would learn and could potentially even be planted as one with the skills of a Scorpion and better able to ferret out more information than could normally be bought or gained from one with only the training of a Geisha.

This satisfied Miyako and although she returned happily to her father’s house, she harbors a grudge against her Crane family for what they’ve done to her mother and for what she sees as a slight against her for not pushing harder for her betrothal to go through. It was not true love, but after having written to and received many missives from her intended, it crushed the girl to have it denied to her on account of her bloodline. Due to this and a few other circumstances, she holds to the ideals of the Scorpion clan without blindly following. With her penchant for honesty, and her openness towards people, it often puts them at ease, never realizing she is manipulating them exactly where she wishes them.
