Emotionless Poetry, Kingdom Hearts Fanfiction

All was silent in the castle that never was. The halls were, for the most part, empty. A set of footsteps were heard here and there on some levels, but were always walking away and not too bothersome. The boy sighed somewhat depressed, as he often did through the day, when there was nothing to do. His light jetting spikes hugged his forehead on and outward in a curve-line motion on his forehead, as if it were permanently not affected by gravity. He blinked as he lazed near the window next to his bed, staring at his reflection. What was so special about his eyes, a pair of crystal icy blue. They appeared to be tired, worn out and reflected his hardships of the day. Blinking at him once, twice, then a third time. A sigh flowed out of roxas’ mouth. He wore his usual get up, plain black cloak with hood and matching plain black shoes. Just like every other 'Nobody' in the /World that never was/ . But the name 'Nobody' had a capital N. Like the type of a species of some sort. But apparently, nothing was suppose to be special about a 'Nobody'. Time clicked by sluggishly.

"I give up. . . " He hissed to no one in particular, jumping off of his white bed to his blank dresser nearby, ripping it open with force and taking out a checkered notebook and pencil. He sat down, leaning the notebook against his knee's, head against his pillow as he slowly opened the pages to a blank one. It was his 'diary' that Saix, the order giver, as roxas so called him, gave him within the first few days he had arrived here. He was suppose to record things in here, like a diary, that’s all he knew. Now that he thought about it, Saix told him 'Nobody would read it'. A bit cliché when you thought about it, because there were fourteen 'Nobody's ' he knew, if he counted right.

Recently, roxas had learned about poetry in his recent missions. Marluxia told him about it. He smiled, remembering the pink haired flower man with the large pink scyth weapon. They were in a new world performing recon and had discovered a fallen peice of paper in a park bush. Well, he saw it, but showed it to Marluxia and asked what it was.

"Hmmm. . . Why its a love poem, Roxy." He said, a smile plastered upon his face as he began reading the parchment, quickly turning to the back to see if there was more written there once the front was finished.

Roxas blinked, confused. "What’s a love poem?" Roxas said, cocking his head slitly to the left in confusion.

Marluxia instantly lowered the paper to meet roxas' gaze. "You don't know what a poem is? I thought axel taught you everything, or was suppose to. . . Lets see. . . a poem, Roxy, is a bunch of words placed together on paper used to display a certain emotion, feeling or can be used to describe something. . . Like love, roxas, is an emotion used by the 'somebody's' , and they use these to display those feelings in a secret way. . . "

Roxas listened, wide eyed. He understood most of it. "So, its a 'somebody' thing to write about love secretly?" Roxas said, trying to understand.

Marluxia shook his head. "Not necessarily, Roxy. We are capable of writing suck things if we so want to, although, Saix would not approve. . . but he's a work-a-holic and I for one like to express myself once in a while. Anyway, when do I ever follow the rules? But love is not the only thing they can use as a bases for poems. For example, hatred, jealousy, sadness, happiness or other such things. I've even written some myself. . . "

Roxas gaped at him in shock. "You have?"

Marluxia winked. "Didn't I say we're capable of doing it ourselves? Why let the somebody's have all of the fun. . . "

Roxas, later that week, was summoned to Marluxia’s room. A pale room full of exotic flowers from all the worlds he's visited. There, after every mission and free time he had, he learned how to write, about word play and other things relating to literature. Marluxia also taught about emotions, and what he remembers from his 'previous life' what it felt like. Roxas got a vague idea.

Roxas had begun to write, feeling a slite burst of energy from a good memory. He often tried to write trying to make it be based off of a certain emotion. Loneliness and love usually what he was practicing at first. 'Write whenever you can, Roxy, alright? I'll read it later if you'd like. . . ' Roxas' pencil began moving down the paper in a steady beat.

'Through the icy darkness I await for you,

I can't find you and I often wonder if your coming for me,

But your there somewhere,

With the key to my heartless self. . .

Aren't you?'

Roxas' pen began to slow as the words stopped forming in his mind. He read over what he had, and decided it was a start. He blinked, writting at the top of the page the word 'alone'. Marluxia told him to title the poems, to make it more real or something.

"Hey, have you seen Roxy, Zexy?" A familiar voice sounded from a distance. The sound from down the hall made roxas jump slightly, feeling panicked. He looked around from left to right, then down to the notebook in his lap. He didn't want him to see it, or worse, read it. He'd destroy it!

"I told you, VIII, do not call me that. My name is Zexion. and as for Roxas, last I saw of him he left for his room after his mission was finished." He heard the blunette tell him sternly.

Roxas fumbled with the notebook, struggling to put the notebook back in the nearby dresser in a heated panic.

"But you'll always be Sexy Zexy to me~" Axel's voice chimed happily, almost song like. He heard an irritated growling hiss come from the blunette, and the sound of footsteps fading, suggesting Zexion took his leave. A second set of footsteps came closer as his doorknob turned, then opened to reveal the redhead with his jade green eyes and triangle tattoo’s. "Hey Roxy, found ya." The redhead said, smiling wide, taking a step into roxas' room. "Zexy was being difficult, trying to hide you for some reason. . ." Axel shrugged as if Zexion made a big deal about his whereabouts. "Poor little emo boy. . . So what’s up? You weren't at our usual spot all week! Why?" Axel said, crossing the room and sitting at the edge of the blond boys bed. Their usual spot. On top of the clock tower, watching the sunset and eating sea salt ice cream after every mission. It was something they liked to call 'the icing on the cake'. Sea salt ice cream may be salty, but it was also very sweet too.

Roxas searched for his words quickly. "Hard missions. Me and Marluxia have been going on missions together, and they wear me out. . . That’s all." Roxas lied smoothly. It wasn't necessarily all a lie. Roxas was going on missions, they were difficult. Lot of heartless. Some missions were even with Marluxia. But he was half telling the truth. Roxas knew that axel could sense the lie by the look upon his face. He was his best friend after all, and Roxas was a notoriously a bad liar.

Axel lifted a short red eyebrow. " Is that so, roxas?" Axel said, standing up and heading for the door.

"Where are you going, axel?" Roxas said, his voice expressing his nervousness and confusion.

"I just remembered there was something I had to ask Marluxia, Be right back, got it memorized?" He said, smirking over his shoulder to the blond before walking out onto the hall and to Marluxia’s room.

Roxas gulped nervously, feeling paranoid at every possibility of what might go down. He knew what axel was doing. He was going to get the truth from Marluxia. His cheeks burned warm and he flooded with embarrassment. That still surprised him. As Nobody's, they had no hearts. No emotions, no feelings. But he did feel, and he told Saix he this. But he simply replied 'those are memories, not feelings roxas' . But he believed in what he felt, because Saix was. . .not always reliable, and sometimes scary. He was sure that man could bite someone‘s head off if you rubbed him the wrong way. A loud scream sounded, and roxas listened in as best he could. It sounded like arguing, and although he couldn't make it out, it definitely was Marluxia and Axel. Roxas felt a knot of guilt gather in his chest, and a lump in his throat for some reason.
