The court has been in a terrible bustle lately, as everyone easily forgets about the missing queen and prepares for the prom.
But I cannot forget. I prepare for the festivities but my mind is constantly occupied with the Lady Alisyn. However, I am going nowhere. I cannot think of how to find her, or even what to do if I find her. I am of no use--a lowly noble barely accepted in court.
We come together for dinner in the great hall as always. I seem to be the only one that notices the changes. Everyone continues their carefree chatter, conveniently forgetting that only a week ago, the Queen sat at the head of the table and conversed with her husband on her right side, with her young daughter on her left and Alisyn's sister next to the princess, speaking happily to her.
It is as if the King has always sat alone at the head of the table, with the Lady Alice perfectly silent at his right side, the very picture of dejection. It is as if there was never a Queen or a Princess to add life to the picture; it is as if the poor child, Princess Momo, never existed to be exiled to her estate in Forkshire with nothing but a handful of nurses and ladies-in-waiting.
I find myself staring at Lady Alice, so many tables away from my low table. She looks as if she has lost all hope.
What if...what if she somehow has news of her sister? If anyone friendly to the Queen's cause knows her location, Lady Alice will.
It may come to nothing, but it is all I have. I will try to approach her later on, when no one will suspect a low noble talking with the banished queen's sister, and the fourth highest person in the country.
