Anything but the tome!!
Coover let out a puffed hoot as Ximly was shoving her clothes into a bag. Why was she in such a hurry? And such a horrid mood? He hadn’t done anything yet… The rest of parliament gathered around their brother on the shelf and looked down at their master as she pulled out a cage. Session was instantly was out, as the five fluffy tome owls scattered, feather down flying in a cloud of rush as they flapped around the room, unable to escape as Ximly had already closed the hole above her door.

“Ah hah, you’re not going anywhere but in this cage.” Ximly said shortly. “Now get! Or I’ll get the tome!”

The owls stopped where they flapped, and plummeted to the floor, bouncing as they landed. They all puffed up in defeat as Ximly came around the room and gathered them one by one, placing them in the cage. “I might as well put you back with the tome… Council’s the one taking me to my new post… they may not let me take you guys….”

Coover seemed to pout as he clacked. That wasn’t fair, who did they think they were to dismiss his master? Ohhh…. He’d get them, just wait, he’d get them good.

“Leave it Coover…. Don’t get me into more trouble than I’m already in.” Ximly sighed as she placed their cage on her bed.

She turned to look at her large piano mournfully, it had cost her nearly an arm and a leg before they had even established the Haven… and now it had to stay behind to whoever the scumbag was that Council was replacing her with. She then looked to the papers stacked on the desk and shelves… she wouldn’t be able to take them, and she almost felt sorry for the mess she was leaving behind… almost.

Coover clacked as his bothers crowded against him in the cage. He’d rather have the tome than being stuck like this for Lord knows how long. He wanted out!

Ximly turned her attention to the owl in distress and shook her head, “Not now-“

She was cut off by the hard knocking at her door, along with the sound of quick footsteps and a sudden argument, and struggling in the hall. Ximly quickly rushed to her door and burst through it, taking a firm grip on Tana’s arm, pulling the witch away from Tom, the undercover member who owned the bar in Tarron. “That is quite enough!” Ximly hissed.

“That b*****d w-“

“Language, Tana!” Ximly roared again, causing both Tom and Tana to wince. “Tom, why are you here?”

“Council wants you out of here Ximly… they gave you a deadline, and you’re cutting it close…” The man replied with a sigh, looking down at her. “You’ve got three hours to be out of Tarron city limits….Your transport is waiting for you.”

Ximly let out a deep sigh, they sent Tom in to check her things, not warn her that time was running out. “I’ll be out in five minutes. Tana, escort him out of the house, he may check my bags on the porch.”

The brown haired witch gave a nod, and whipped out her wand, pointing it at Tom, causing him to turn involuntarily and walk down the hall to the stairs. “Keep it moving mister!” She snapped as Tom tried to resist.

“You cannot treat a high ranking member like-“

“OH shut it, I’ve got more clearance than you do, now MOVE!”

Ximly shook her head as their bickering faded down the stairs. She then turned to her room again and stepped inside, closing the door behind her. Quickly she stepped to the bookshelf next to her bed and opened one of the drawers in the bottom of it, pulling out a large, white, old, antique book. Her little parliament gave out a hoot, and the cage shook before giving a loud crack and puff of smoke as she opened the book to a blank page. A picture of the owls within their cage appeared on what was once the blank page, and Ximly gave out a sigh as she closed it, slipping it inside another bag which morphed around the book to make it appear as if it were her sketchbook, her journal. With a satisfied nod, Ximly gently placed the tome in her bag before closing it. She slung it over her shoulder, gave one last mournful look to her piano, and then left.

Outside Tom sat on the porch of the house with his arms crossed, Tana sitting beside him with a pair of cuffs on her wrist, a nasty look on her face. Tom looked over his shoulder at Ximly as she came out, and snapped his fingers, the cuffs falling from Tana’s wrist as he stood. “Stay.” He said sharply as Tana attempted to stand.

Ximly twitched, she had the burning urge to call Tom a traitor, but she knew the man. He went by the books, always had, always would. She handed out her bag before he could even ask for it, she acted as if she had nothing to hide, and kept a straight face to match.

Tom took it, opened it, shuffled through it, and then handed it back. He knew that if Ximly had something hidden, it would be obvious to the trained eye. He gave a curt nod and motioned to a small black car in the driveway. “Your ride awaits d-“

“No sarcasm, please Tom.” Ximly said shortly as she started for the car, shivering in the strong breeze that had kicked up.
