So.... what is going on with people having no-love-for-books-what-so-ever? It seems that everywhere I go, people have less of an appreciation for the written word, and books in general. Wait, I do have a specific example in mind.
So, today my friend and I went on a re-con mission, to rescue some poor helpless books. This all came about because of a crazy art teacher, and her evil plot to destroy said helpless books, in the name of bad art. I know, I just spoke blasphemy. I am sorry. No art is bad art. But, you do not know my art teacher. Shes not really an artist, shes a drone/body snatcher/corporate spy in the shape of an art teacher. Thus, bad art. XD
So, it seems that someone in our class told her that the school library was throwing out books. At this point, my friend and I knew that no matter what, some books were not going to make it to the end of this day. But we also knew, we could save some of them.
Armed with nothing more then a hall pass and a sweater ( We didn't think of bringing a box of anything. Luckily it didn't come to using the sweater as a sling for books. XD) we headed for the library, along with most of the art class, to gather supplies. Only, we had an alternative motive.
When we got there, they had two carts of books, ready to be thrown away. Silhou and I went nuts. By the end of it, we each had stacks that reached from out hips to under our chins.
Now, heres the part that worries me. While we were there, a librarian... a LIBRARIAN, came over, and asked us why we would want "all those old books?" We told her simply that we like books. "Oh", she said. "But we have so many other books that are, up to date and contemporary, and... better" (Okay, so she didn't really say better. But she implied it.) Regardless of her attempts, we were not swayed in our standings, and carried out our self assigned mission flawlessly. By the time we went back to class, both our lockers were full of books.
Okay, so whats the point right? What a stupid story right? Why would we go to all the trouble to save some out of date books, ( many of which were fantastic romance novels, btw. ) you ask?
Because the point I wanted to make, is that no one has any appreciation, for the written word anymore. I'm not even kidding. I know what I sound like. I don't care. Its the truth. We are becoming more and more computer oriented. Why read the book anymore, you can just look it up on Sparknotes. Who cares, right? This scares me. I hope to someday write a book, and I only pray that there will still be people who want to read it by then.
Alright, so maybe I'm going over board. But thats just how I am. I look at how people treat books today, and how they write, ( liek omg i am sooo bordezzz!!! omg wtf lol! THESE ARE NOT WORDS PEOPLE! DX) and I see a sad future. I realize this is just another boring rant, but this really is a growing concern in my eyes. Thats all. Thanks for reading.
