Seawolf's Laws of the Exchange.
*There's always another Sale -This is just like dating. There are plenty of other fish in the sea. Don't quit Gaia just because you couldn't make a deal with someone.
*Donation items donation items donation items. -Don't attempt to make profit off of anything OTHER than donation items. -Donation items inflate, simple as that. -Game items DEFLATE -Rares are not stable. At first I thought they deflate, but now I see that their value is more relevant to supply/demand than anything else. This makes them SUPER unstable. -Event items are never stable, and inflate extremely slow. -Store items are a given.
*If you don't know the stability of an item, don't buy it. -An item can inflate just as easily as it can deflate. And most of the time it deflates. Never attempt to make profit while something is inflated drastically. It'll deflate again before you know it.
*'04/'05 are better than '06 -The stability of '04s is better than '05, and '05 better than '06. -'06 are what you should be stocking up on. Their price isn't set in stone, and the profit you can make on them is minimal for now. -If '06 is all you can afford to profit off of, so be it.
*Don't expect '03's to sell fast -They don't sell often due to the fact that not many people can afford them. -Even if someone COULD afford it, the chances of getting an offer fast and quick is little to none. Be aware that if you do get an offer, the return has massive potential.
*Read the Seller's rule list CAREFULLY
*Always take note of the Seller's mood. -Don't take too much advantage of a good mood. -If the Seller is in a bad mood, and they reject your offer, wish them a simple good luck and carry on. -Make sure you know what the seller's starting bid is. You never know the origins of the item they're selling, and how much profit they're making/losing from it. So always try to offer above their starting bid. If it's too high, carry on.
*No noob offers MEANS no noob offers. -You should never offer 5k, or more, less than Market low. It leaves you open to being outbid, and sellers will never go for it. Start with a solid 4k less than Market low, and go from there.
*If it's less than 1.5k profit, it's not worth it. -This rule applies especially to big items, things 70k+ -If you feel you can make a quick 1k, then it's your choice.
*If you feel something is overpriced, it is.
*Never go out on a limb, unless it has to do with Sealeds.
*Haggling is for the experienced. -If you don't know how to haggle effectively, learn to. -Only make offers that you can beat.
*Luck and fate is a key factor in selling/buying. Whatever your charm is, use it ;] -To find the right buyer/seller, at the right time, at the right price, takes a lot of work. But don't try to depend on the gods too much, make use of your resources. -Bumping is always needed, especially at peak hours.
*Competition is always fierce -Do as best a job you can at battling competition. -Look for topics with ~5 replies. -Late night US time is always a good time to shop.
*Go to other topics. -Staying in your own thread is a waste of time. Look through other threads while in between bumps. Item trades are common, and deals can be found right around the corner. This rule applies ESPECIALLY when you've got extra gold to buy and sell.
*Never discourage bumping -I see this a lot. If someone decides to come into your thread and bump a few times, reward them. Extra bumpers can prove to be a very nice asset.
*Pity is for the weak If you ever feel like you're ripping someone off, you're not. Sorry, but it's the way of life. Greed makes the world go 'round heart It's perfectly fine to donate though.
*Begging is for noobs. If you find yourself begging, you're never going to make it. Ever.
*Try to keep track of what you buy and sell things for. -It helps in managing your profit.
*Always double, even TRIPLE check the following before completing the trade: The item(s). The items' price in the Market. The amount you're buying/selling it for. Your gold.
*It's okay to curse. -Getting shot with deflation, not being able to find a seller, making a bad move. It happens to all of us. Get through it and move on ^^
