I had a dream last night:

A magnificent wooden ship with no sails founders in a dark, storm-tossed ocean. She's in the shape of a twin dragon, and though there are no decks, a dashing knight with ebony hair and silver armor stands vigilant at the fore porthole. He looks out with concern over the violent water, hoping that the princess he's been charged with guarding is safe and comfortable, and cursing himself for not being able to part the waters for her.

He spends only a few moments in this attempt to will the storm away before trekking aft to check on her--a duty, he tells himself, though it's come to be so much more of a pleasure.

As he reaches her quarters, she steps out to greet him with a warm embrace. This princess is a fetching young man in a white gown that knows itself to be far too beautiful to obey such mundane laws as gravity or physics, and it shifts in its ephemeral weightlessness behind him as the knight's face flushes at her familiarity.

He's so in love with this princess, and once they return safely to the kingdom, he intends to marry him. The knight returns the caress, and they exchange words for a few minutes before he is forced to divert his attention once more by the shipmaster, who has some concern about the integrity of the iron defenses of the ship.

There are other knights aboard the ship, and Todd (which is our knight's name) has never felt threatened except by one, who happens to share his name. This second knight, a smaller blonde boy, also seems to have taken interest in the princess, and Todd is slightly uneasy, as the other has far more freedom than he to spend time with the princess. But he dismisses this feeling, as he knows that he is the chief knight on this voyage, and that he must be the top candidate for the princess's hand in marriage.

But just as he thinks this, the ship approaches port, and the storm throws them against some formidable rocks. The shipmaster flips a lever and the twin dragons seperate, leaving Todd endlessly frustrated and on a completely different side of the ship than his beloved!

The shipmaster moans as pieces of the vessel are lost to the jaggedness of the rocks, but indeed the boat holds steady and both sides arive safely at shore, though Todd is unfortunately on the later one.

To his dismay, by the time he arrives the princess has already been promised to the other knight, and their wedding is to take place the next morning. Todd and the princess arrange a meeting by the docks that night to say their goodbyes before the wedding. The princess begs for Todd to tell the king the true story...

Instead of being brave, however, Todd opens up a pawn shop, substituting gold for his lost love. The princess is sad, Todd is sad, and Everyone lives Crappily Ever After. Except that other guy, who is probably having the time of his life.

No wonder I woke up depressed. Surreal, epic, potentially allegorical...I still don't know if it was awesome or if it just sucked really hard.
