A good model for the melting of granules in plastic extrusion machines a single screw extruder is presented partly I. It is in keeping with observations of previous workers and retains a few of the choices unveiled by Tadmor in his unit; nevertheless, it assumes that the stable bed of granules cannot stand significant distinctions of principal stresses and so account should be used explicitly of the downstream pressure balance on the sound bed and in the melt pool. Detailed quasi-analytic results are provided for a Newtonian fluid in Part II. These illustrate the model for a straightforward case and have relevance for a few materials particularly. A more elaborate numerical scheme is going to be described partly III for a non-Newtonian model and email address details are presented for assessment with the predictions of various other theories and with experiments.
