"Don't tell me," I said, trying to think. Leon nodded, immediately silent, and seriously, his obedience was so cute sometimes. Other times, it could get rather annoying, but everyone had their flaws. He was one of my best friends, although I had the strangest feeling that he felt differently. Could he possibly be jealous? It was impossible, yet it had a strange appeal to it. I decided not to tell him what I thought, because my opinion was so outrageous. "I - um, never mind. Just tell me."
After a slight pause, he said, "It's nothing, Rina," and shrugged. "I think I have to go help Dina with a few lawn gnomes. She lost her rings in the area."
"I'll come with you!" I declared immediately, the words flowing out of my mouth before I could stop them. It didn't feel right to let him go alone. Even if he was strong, and obviously way more capable than me at fending for himself, worry surged inside of me whenever I thought of him going against numerous monsters at once. He was commander, which meant he was the one who led the attacks to the wildest monsters. Lawn gnomes were the weakest monsters in the area, much to my relief, but I still felt anxious.
"You know you can't," he replied sourly. I glared at him.
"Why can't I? Most of the citizens are allowed, and they make wonderful members of the Barton Whatchamacallit, and I bet I'd do just as well as them!" I argued. Of course, I was too much of a coward to actually join, but that didn't mean I couldn't even follow Leon and make sure he didn't get hurt. The more I thought, the more I realized I'd only hinder him, and I added quietly, "And there are a lot of fruits in the area." The statement was my last resort, and I knew he'd reject my offer even before he said it.
