The Flaws
A girl with medium length dark brown hair stands in the middle of the park. Her head tilted up towards the sky. Droplets of rain hitting her tanned face. “I wish I wasn’t alone, I wish,” Whispering to herself, “I just don’t want to be alone!” Screaming out. Dropping to her knees, letting her hands hit the ground with tremendous force. A crack of lighting hits a tree in the North West corner of the park. She begins to rise from the ground, entranced in the flames upon the leaves. Her hand reaching out to the flame, “Why does this look so serene to me?” The once dancing flames begin to disappear as the rain continues to pour down. “Why did I leave again? Why can’t I let things be, and be happy?!” Tears running down her olive skin. Putting her hands against her face, letting sobs escape her cherry lips. Sliding down to the ground curling up on the drenched concrete. She slowly begins to stand as the lightning flashes and the thunder booms in her ears. Wincing as the thunder booms again. A tall man with short black hair comes up behind her. Sliding his arms around her shoulders. Holding her so firm yet tender. She puts her hands on his arms gently as more tears form in her eyes. “Why did you come?” Whispering. She tilts her head back trying to look at him. He moves his head so she cannot see his face. “I didn’t mean to let you go like that,” his voice shaking as he continues to speak, “I shouldn’t have said any of that to you.” Dropping her head down looking at the ground as tears continue to fall down her face. “It’s alright,” her voice breaking, “You… you don’t have to apologize,” tears beginning to fall. Stepping back from her letting his head hang down. “I should though!” Turning around slowly lifting her hand to his face. “No you don’t.” She said softly. Stepping back avoiding her touch. “I don’t deserve you,” looking up at her, his eyes rimmed with tears, “I don’t deserve the love you have given me.” Stepping closer to him, sliding her hands onto his cheeks, caressing him. “You’re wrong. I’m the one who should be saying that. I don’t deserve this. All I will do is mess it up and you don’t deserve to be hurt. I am used to getting hurt though,” stepping back, crossing her arms over her chest, “so it doesn’t phase me much anymore.” Looking down, putting her hands to her face as she begins to sob. “Please don’t cry over me. I’m just a regular guy. I’m nothing special.” Looking at her with pleading eyes. Jerking her head up, her eyes in disbelief as she stares at him, her eyes hot with tears. “You’re not just a regular guy! You’re special! Special to me! Why can’t you see that?!” He begins to lift his arm to reach out for her. Then noticing how much he has hurt her with his words, he puts his hands in his pockets looking at the brick edging around the sidewalk. She drops to her knees upon the cold concrete, goose bumps covering the surface of her skin. “Why can’t you see I was happy with you?” Lowering her head as she tenses her body up, “I never wanted to lose you! You were my life, you were everything to me, but you threw me away like all the rest! I thought I was actually something special to someone.” “I didn’t mean to hurt you, you know that. I love you.” Interrupting him, “Then why did you push me away?!” Standing silently, glancing up at him. “Why would you do that to me?” Saying in a hushed voice. “I didn’t mean to and you know that!” He said with a hint of anger in his calm voice. His left hand balled tight into a fist at his side. She begins to back away from him, slipping on the slick concrete, hot tears in her eyes. He reaches out for her, grabbing her arm, pulling her into his warm embrace. She pulls away from him, stumbling backwards, “Why do you seem so distant from me?” Beating on his chest, “It’s not fair! All I want to do is be with you, and just you!” Tears forming in her lightly swollen eyes. Yelling at her as he grabs her hands, “Then why don’t you just leave me!?” Dropping down to the ground her hands still in his, “Wh-Why would you say that to me? How could you say that to me?” Her eyes wide with horror, as tears stream down her face. The words echoed inside her head, as she pulls her hands away from him and clutches her head, screaming out, “WHY?! WHY LOVE ME THEN?! I’M WORTHLESS!” “You’re not worthless! Don’t ever call yourself that again.” Yelling at him, “Why would you care!?” Grasping her shoulders tight, “I care because I love you! I don’t want you to get hurt! I let it go to far,” loosening his grip on her. He takes a step back, his hands still on her dainty shoulders. “What do you mean let it go to far,” saying quietly, “What do you mean?!” Yelling out in confusion. His hands drop to his sides hanging loosely. “You should leave me,” saying bluntly, “I only seem to hurt you.” “You’re not hurting me!” Gripping onto his hoodie. He puts his hands on her shoulders pushing her away gently, “I’m not hurting you? Then why are you crying?” “I’m crying because you’re pushing me away! You’re telling me to leave you!” Pleading to him, “Don’t make me say those words. Please!” “All I am doing is hurting you! Why can’t you see that? If you leave me you can be happy,” pleading to her. “I’d rather die then lose you,” Looking up at him with anger in her eyes, gripping onto his hoodie even more. Grasping her hands gently trying to push them away, “Don’t say that. You’re better off without me. I am only an obstacle in your way, a pit stop that you visit, and then leave.” Yelling at him, “You’re not though! Why do you put yourself down like that! I care about you! Do you not want me to?!” “It’s the truth,” he says quietly to her as he pulls her hands off of him putting them down. “I’m nothing but darkness that shrouds the best decision.” “You’re not shrouding any decision! I made them for a reason. I want to stay with you though! You are not the darkness you claim to be, you’re my light. You’re the only reason I am happy!” Grabbing her shoulders shaking her a bit, “Do you see what I’m doing to you!? I’m not making you happy! I’m hurting you!” Turning her head away from him looking at the ground. He tries to turn her face towards him, but she resists. “Why can’t you see that I am hurting you?! You’re better off without me!” “I’m nothing without you!” She screams out balling her fists up at her sides, “I can’t even be happy without you! I’m worthless! I’m trash! I’m that invisible girl that no one pays attention to!” Looking down, not making eye contact with her, “Don’t say those things about yourself,” saying quietly, “you’re none of them.” Irritated, “Why am I not? You said I was beautiful you made me happy, but you are telling me to leave! Why shouldn’t I believe them! Why?!” He steps back looking away from her. He begins to turn his back to her, but she grabs his arm and kisses him. “Do you feel nothing?” Looking at him tears beginning to form in her eyes. He stands there looking down, “You should go home and think this over,” he puts his hand over his mouth. She stands there holding her arms across her chest. Her jacket dripping as the rain continues to fall. She unzips her jacket dropping it to the ground. The jacket being so heavy makes a splash on the concrete. “Put your jacket on.” “No,” she looks down as tears begin to fall. Looking up at him, “Do you feel nothing for me now?” “I love you, but I hurt you too much. You shouldn’t stay with me anymore, but you do. Why?” “I do because I love you,” she puts her shaking hand on his arm gently. “Why? Why do you love me? I do nothing, but hurt you.” He walks to a nearby bench, sits down propping his elbows up on his knees, and puts his head down rubbing the back of his neck. She walks over to him and sits on her knees in front of him. “Why won’t you let me love you,” she says in almost a whisper as she looks down, “Why can’t I care for you?” Choking on her words. “I told you. I am not the kind of person you want in your life. I’m nothing, but darkness. All I do is hurt you and you, you of all people don’t deserve that, and you know you don’t. Please I ask, no I am telling you say those five words to me, and you will be free. I swear it. You will be happier without me,” he pleads to her as he slides his hand onto her shoulder. Tears again forming in her swollen eyes as she gently pushes his hand off of her, “As I said before ‘I would rather die then lose you,’” her tone cold and blunt. “Don’t say that.” “I’d rather die then lose you,” she says again. Grabbing her shoulders firmly, “Look at me.” “Why should I?” Looking at the tree that was struck down earlier. He puts his hands on her cheeks forcing her to look at him, but as he finally gets her to face him she closes her dark brown eyes. “Please look at me,” sliding his thumb across her cheek, “please?” She opens her eyes slowly tears streaming down her face. He wipes the tears away and holds her for a moment then lets her go and pulls back from her. “Leave me, say those five words. I’m destined to be lonely, not to be cared for. Please just leave, go home.” “I won’t leave. I’ll never leave you! I did all this to stay with you! I wanted to stay with you for as long as I could, but you won’t even let me!” Looking at her confused, “What do you mean? You did what to stay with me?” “Everything! I did everything,” she says sniffling, “I wanted to stay with you for as long as I could.” She stands up her legs tingly and numb from sitting on her legs for so long. She sits next to him and looks down her hands in her lap. “I was going to go to the boarding school for a year to have a chance to stay with you, I did it all for a chance to be with you longer.” She pulls her knees up to her chest beginning to cry. Looking at her, his eyes wide, “Why would you do anything for me?” “I did it because I fell in love with you. I am taking the other class after school so I don’t have to go to the boarding school. SO I don’t have to leave you. I am taking my classes seriously somewhat so that I can be with you. Please don’t keep pushing me away. I am begging you; I swear that I’ll do anything just to stay with you. So please don’t make me say those words to you. Please?” Pleading to him as silent tears fall down her face. He stands up pulling her into his arms, stroking her hair. “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry,” tears forming in his sorrowful eyes, “don’t leave me. I’m sorry. Why didn’t you tell me?” She began to sob, gripping onto his purple hoodie darkened by the rain. “I couldn’t. I didn’t want you to know. I felt selfish, and scared.” Putting his hands on her cheeks, “You don’t need to be scared to tell me anything,” he kissed the top of her head. Crying as she did when she was little. He holds her tighter and lifts her tear stained face, and kisses her gently. One arm around her waist the other on her cheek caressing it. He then whispers in her ear, “I’m sorry can you ever forgive me?” She nods her head slowly holding onto him. He takes her hand and they walk to the swings that lie in the southern part of the park. He has her sit on the swing, both of them soaked from head to toe. He began to push her on the swing. Whispering to himself as she swings away from him, “I swear that I will never hurt you again. For as long as live I will do nothing, but make you happy.”
