Epicurus couldn't have worded that any better.

The hitch here is that if God were able, yet unwilling, to prevent evil, He is not necessarily malevolent.

He may simply be honest to a decision to permit us free will.

And evil is bred by series of choices. Angels cannot choose. And the mind of God (if such an expression can apply) is a mystery; to see it would be to see from outside the universe, outside ourselves, which is impossible. God makes decisions, yes, but God, being perfect, is bound by perfect adherence to them; if He bestows upon us free will, He honors that gift by permitting us to destroy ourselves if we so choose. Humans can also wield the power of choice, but without the omniscience to wield it perfectly.

That imperfection is the source of evil.

It follows then that evil originates from us, not from God. And if we wish to put a stop to evil, the change must come from within ourselves and be expressed in our actions. Evil is a decision, just as good is a decision.

Some simply need more help to see it than others.
