The walls were swooping and large, filled with the noise of the people inside of them. There were people resting on the ivory pillars holding cocktails and laughing. The women were dressed in elegant dresses of all sorts, some of those women on the arms of expensive suited men.
An upbeat jazzy tune came from a phonograph in the far corner near the large windows that showcased the stars of the night. It was all quite beautiful.
There was a hand on my shoulder, a delicate hand filled with youth.
"Oh my, Melanie, I just have to say what a beautiful event you've put together here tonight," I said to the woman who's dark hair was pulled into a bun. Her tiny body was adorned in a tight, wine colored dress that skirted the cold marble tiles of the floor and her smile was as bright as it was back in highschool. Probably only because of whitening strips.
"Why thank you Jessica, it took so long, but it's all for charity, and that's all that matters right?" she said in her fake singsong voice.
"Ah yes, charity." Her bright green eyes sailed above my head to meet her fiancee, a bulky man in a milky white suit. They were a cute couple.
"You met Henry earlier didn't you?" Melanie asked me as he walked around in front of me.
Henry thrust forward a dark tanned hand and I gave my pale one over to shake. There was a complete opposition between the two of our hands; like the night sky to one of the daytime.
"Well, we have to go check the hors d'oeuvres, so I'll see you soon Jess," Melanie said as she picked up her long skirt and her fiancee and glided away.
Imagination gave me the nights like these. It let me live my life without actually having to glimpse any of it. Being blind, imagination is key to the life that I live.
Being blind is beautiful.
