27 News, Hello! My name is Leanna Higgins and I need your help. I am a single mom and I am completely lost as to what I do now. I moved my kids and I to Spring Green, WI last year. I have 11 & 14 yr old girls and 7 & 10 yr old boys. I wanted them safe, away from middle school sex and drugs and a part of a community. I found out that sometimes smaller numbers can have quite a large impact. Here in Spring Green there are less active kids sure, there are also still sex jelly bracelets being worn and used and real sex in school! To make it worse, the sex in the school this year started with a married teacher and the principal. Yes, during the school day and yes, all adults and students know. Even the local school board knows... so why do I need help? No one is acting in the best interest of the kids. Ms. McGuire and Mr. Hoffman where caught in the school, during the school day. The school did not notify parents nor did they return parent phone calls. Mr. Hoffman was allowed to resign, (not fired, no mark on his record) and Ms. McGuire is still teaching everyday. Why is this being allowed in our schools? The 6th, 7th, and 8th graders talk about it daily. Some 8th graders have started engaging in sexual activity in or around the school and some with juniors and seniors. I have asked the school why she is teaching and they only say they have reported the incident and its the school boards decision. I have notified that same school that an 18 yr old named Brian is preying on 8th graders sexually since this happened and he is having sex with multiple 8th graders and nothing is being done to him or to stop him. In 2010 none of this should be taking place. Now I have pulled my daughter from Ms. McGuire's Civics class but she has to sit in the office and we are being made to feel like we are wrong for not trusting her judgment in the classroom. I have three more kids going thru there in the next 6 years and I don't want her there, guiding and teaching our kids. #1- It is a distraction when kids are whispering and thinking about sex instead of civics. #2- It's sexual misconduct in a classroom. #3- It is immoral and possibly illegal. ( she is married and it is school grounds, and they were caught in the act) #4- What did she teach our kids? I have chosen the truth and explained that preteens and teens aren't ready physically or emotionally. I warned them of STD's and pregnancy and I told them how much more fulfilling the act of making love could be when its forever over casual sex. I've taught them that when your in love, married and ready to make new life with your love it's more than it ever can be in any other situation and they deserve that kind of love. Now this TEACHER has shown them that a married woman they respect is having sex outside her marriage. What does that teach them and what do I say when my girls ask why? SCHOOL SHOULD NOT BE THIS RISKY or this confusing especially regarding sex. Please dont allow this school to get away with sweeping all under the rug at our kids expense. Thank you for your time!
