Here's the extended profile for Serpentine. If it seems like Crazy!Serpentine is an extremely one-dimensional character, that's because...well, he kind of is. The sad part about him going crazy is that he loses a lot of himself and the things that are left are only remnants of his original personality.
---------------
Serpentine
Gender: Male
Age: Appears to be in late 20's
Height: 6'3"
Personality: Pre-storyline, he was an all-around good guy: intelligent, friendly, laid-back, and confident. Certain events before the main storyline cause him to basically go batshit insane. He becomes excessively paranoid and violent, and is very easily manipulated by Zircon. His loss of self-control transforms him into the most dangerous beserker in the storyline - even Zircon has to be somewhat careful when handling Serpentine. Pre- and post-crazy Serpentine are pretty much two different people.
Significant Other: Used to be Amethyst, back before he went all crazy. His relationship with her never got any real closure, so he still believes that she's his. His affection changes to obsession and jealousy, which is only exacerbated by the fact that Amethyst is now with Spinel.
Likes: Pre-crazy - relaxing, making others laugh, sparring, drinking games (he usually wins), exploring, animals, Amethyst. Post-crazy: Erm...he doesn't really do much of anything that he liked formerly, apart from seek out Amethyst. He'll spar from time to time but it doesn't really make him happy anymore.
Dislikes: Pre-crazy - paperwork, chores, being told what to do. Post-crazy - a lot of things can rub him the wrong way, and there's no telling what could could be set off by. Spinel always pisses him off, as does anyone else who sees as a threat to getting back together with Amethyst.
Biggest Faults: Pre-crazy - Sep enjoys being the life of the party and gets somewhat jealous when attention shifts to someone else. He also dislikes being given orders almost out of principle, even if the task that is delegated to him isn't asking much. He dislikes authority figures very much. Post-crazy - Sep is extremely paranoid in the sense that he feels like others are constantly plotting against him or doing things behind his back, which allows him to be manipulated by Zircon very easily. He can go from stoic to raging at the drop of a hat, and is extremely vicious and unforgiving. He greatly lacks the self-control and subtlety needed to mask his emotions, so he's ruled by them.
Fighting Styles: Spinel and Serpentine were originally made to work as partners, with Spinel covering defense and Sep covering offense. As such, Serpentine is extremely dangerous and well-versed in a number of different fighting styles. His special ability allows him to "burn" own parts of his soul as fuel, granting him nearly infinite endurance and the ability to fire off extremely damaging attacks. The trade-off is that he loses a part of himself every time he does this, so he only uses it in times of extreme need. (HMMMM I wonder how he went crazy) Obviously, he can only do this a certain number of times before he kills himself. However, he's a very capable fighter even without utilizing this ability.
Pre-crazy, his fighting style is quick and to the point - he gets in close and fells his opponents with great speed. If need be he can also fire off small magic/energy blasts to attack from a distance, but he prefers using his fists. Post-crazy, his fighting style lacks some of the finesse it used to have but is still very simple: hit it until it dies. He prefers using his fists rather than weapons.
Appearance: Tall, medium build, pale skin with a greenish hue. Pointed ears and incisors, black hair. He has black tribal tattoos along his shoulders and back (see references), but they're normally hidden under his clothing. Pre-crazy Serpentine cared about how he looked and kept up his appearance by himself; post-crazy Serpentine looks much more disheveled. If you look at his character sheet, you'll notice he has an earpiece like Amethyst's that he wears on his left ear. (It's supposed to be silver, but I'm too lazy to edit the character sheet). He still wears this when he goes crazy, but because he no longer bothers tucking his hair back behind his ears, you usually don't see it because it's covered by his hair.
Race/Type: Although it's never officially addressed in the storyline, Serpentine is thought to be a mythical serpent in human form.
Clothing styles: Pre-crazy - fairly simple, somewhat suave and debonair. (Open-chested shirts, etc.) Post-crazy - whatever Zircon gives him to wear. His clothing is designed to be durable and hard to remove because Serpentine doesn't really take care of his clothes or care what he looks like, and Zircon doesn't want him running around naked.
Relationships:
- Amethyst: Amethyst and Serpentine had a pretty serious relationship back when the Crystallians were still being created. She was shy but sweet, and he had the knack for making her laugh. (It was one of the few relationships in the storyline that wasn't completely dysfunctional - it was truly a happy, healthy relationship.) Although they couldn't get officially married, they were effectively husband and wife to each other and wore matching earpieces in the place of wedding rings. Serpentine still views Amethyst as his wife even to this day. His devotion to her was one of the few things that remained constant as he slowly lost his mind, but what once was affection has now been twisted into jealousy and possessiveness.
- Zircon: Before he went crazy, Serpentine hated Zircon's guts and wanted nothing to do with him. (It's one of the factors that caused Sep to defect from the group - he didn't want to take orders from a pompous a** like Zircon.) After he goes crazy, Zircon eventually presents himself as an ally to Sep. Sep decides to join with him because of their common goal: eliminating Spinel.
- Spinel: Because of Spinel's involvement with Amethyst, Serpentine wants to flat-out murder Spinel. (Sep feels that Spinel has moved in on his wife while he's been away.) This overpowering bloodlust is the primary thing that allows Serpentine to be manipulated by Zircon so easily.
- Diamond: Young!Serpentine felt kind of ambivalently towards Diamond. He couldn't find anything particularly unlikeable about Diamond as a person, but he resented his free choice being taken away from him and didn't like the idea of having to fit into the hierarchy that Diamond laid out for the Crystallians to follow.
- Angelite - Crazy!Serpentine thinks Angelite is a stuck-up b***h, and he's right. He generally avoids social interaction with her unless absolutely necessary.
- Everyone else: Sep doesn't really give a s**t about most other people because of his deteriorating mental state. If he views someone as an obstacle to his goals, he'll have no qualms about killing them on the spot.
Songs - Here are some songs that I think particularly suit Serpentine's character, if you want a little music to draw by. :3 Blue October - The End (nsfw, but hell if it doesn't get his crazy paranoid mentality down)
wahmbulance FYI: Drawing Serpentine in scenes from the plotline will earn you super mega brownie points. Please check out the last section of this journal entry for more information concerning the dynamics between Amethyst, Spinel, and Serpentine.
