Second Continent
Second Continent:

Basics: intelligent to a fault, the Second Continent has the second-highest income (second only to the First Continent) but the most money per capita. The Second Continent takes a less militaristic approach to the demand for money and resources. The Second Continent was the first to build an airship and is now working on a secret project known as the ‘AW Project’ for their soldiers. To make up for their lack of natural resources, the Second Continent keeps an open trading market to all continents and other political powers and are also working on technology to slow the usage of resources. They are also a good source of entertainment. Their national sport Blitzball, is the largest industry in the whole continent (and quite possibly the world, next to the military). The Second Continent, even though they pale in the overwhelming numbers of the First Continent’s military, has the strongest naval force. It is also one of the largest advocates for tide-powered energy. About 20% of all its electricity to coastal cities run on tide-powered turbines.

Important Cities/Landmarks:

Astana- a city that is the base of the democratic operations. A coastal city, this is a local place for people to visit and also to immigrate through. However, due to the high importance of this city, there is much security here. It is divided into three districts: the Legislative district, where the politicians live and work, the Residential district, where the other inhabitants of the city live, and the Business district, where those from the Residential district go to work. The Business district and the Residential district are connected by trolley to each other and to the well-known King’s Train, which runs along the west coast of the Second Continent, starting from Astana.

Estare- the first stop for the King’s Train, Estare is a large city that used to be the capital until its move to Astana. Now, its claim to fame is its airship industry, which is considered to be the best in the world. Due to this, many mercenaries have their bases set up in rented space here and store their airships in one of Estare’s many airship docks.

Bridge Forest- the second and third stop for the King’s Train (the train makes a stop before the forest and halfway through it), the Bridge Forest is actually a small stretch of land between two lakes: the Aqui and the Aqua. It is known as the Bridge Forest because it ends up being the bridge in between Estare and Julianè. It is actually the home to some of the large research endeavors on Geno and is actually a large excavation site. The whole point of creating the terminals for the King’s Train in the first place was to make it easier for the researchers and developers of land and such to go into the forest without walking for too long. Bridge Forest is well-known through the whole world, as it is one of the more used places for documentaries and survival shows.

Juliàne- is the fourth stop on the King’s Train and is a large scientific institute. It is named after President Juliàne Andrews for her help in funding the development and the construction of the city. This is also where Juliàne went to after her retirement, wanting to work as a scientist in well-known institute. Juliàne is well-established as the most advanced city on the continent, and quite possibly one of the most advanced in Geno.

Bèlisma- is the fifth and final stop on the King’s Train. It is a city that was originally built to sustain one-half of the population of what it holds right now. Due to this, this city is constantly under construction. Due to the razing of Felistantè by Klenoa during The War of the Gifted, Bèlisma has grown beyond its original demographics. There are more people who are having more children, thusly making the city’s population larger as the actual city is only growing at one-fifth of the rate needed. This makes housing more scarce to come by and people are left out in the streets. Thusly, the once beautiful city of Bèlisma has become a slum-ish place that shows another side of the destruction from war.

Felistantè- is one of the only cities that is not connected to the King’s Train. This is also one of the only cities that is on the coast and also is unpopulated. Felistantè is actually the town where Klenoa’s attack against the Second Continent was raged during The War of the Gifted. Under Klenoa’s demands, his army attacked the harbor using their navy and then subsequently razed the land. Thusly, those who did not die in the initial strike died a little bit afterwards due to food shortages. All of the survivors were soon herded into Bèlisma. Felistantè, after the war, began to undergo recovery operations. However, recovery operations would take ten years worth of funds and then another twenty years of financial support in order for the economy to start flowing again. Thusly, the plan was scrapped and Felistantè, instead, has become a memorial site for all of those who died in that attack.

Government: The Second Continent’s all about democracy and letting the people control their destiny. Due to this, they have a President that serves five years for a term and can serve up to four terms. There has been a tendency, however, that children of the current president eventually rise up to becoming presidents themselves. Thusly, the democratic system is somewhat similar to that of a monarchy, where older family ties run deep and control the public’s decisions. Below the president is his vice-council, which is a group of five people who act as the president’s advisors. They are the military commander, the economic advisor, the public spokesperson, the scientific advisor, and the international advisor. Unlike the First Continent, the Second Continent focuses more on keeping things compact, as it is easier for a president who is serving only one term to get things done with one advisor, who can then spread the word through their own networks.
