Err... I'm bored, so I'll tell the story of adopting Jay!!!
I sat in the corner boot of the diner, as far back as possible from the windows. The hood of my cloak kept my face in shadows. Gaians may be open to races like vampires and elves, but exploding in the sunlight was still something worth staring at.
"We could be enjoying a nice sleep indoors if it weren't for you and your stupid horrible memory!" I muttered to myself, "What kind of idiot locks their self out of their own HOUSE?"
By this moment I had finally noticed the waitress staring at me. I laughed nervously. sweatdrop "Ehhh... I don't get out much..." I explained. The girl nodded slowly at me, vampirism may be okay, but talking to yourself in second person gets some weird looks. I ordered a strawberry sundae and the waitress hurried off.
"Hikari no motto, wa mi ra umar-" I fished my PDA out of my pocket and checked my inbox. PM from Luke flashed on the screen. I absentmindedly clicked on it; the message popped onto the screen, "I GOT A SON!!" The strange message was followed by a picture of him standing next to a pale squirrelly looking kid with black hair. "His name's Orin!"
I felt my eye start to twitch slightly. I ignored it and PMed back my common three-letter response, WTF? Just then the waitress came back with my sundae, I thanked and paid her, then began digging into my sundae.
"Waaaaar is oooooverdue, The tiiiiiiime has come for yooouuu," I fished my PDA back out of my pocket while trying to keep eating. It was a hard feat to accomplish. "To shooot your leeeaaaders down, Join fooorces uuuunnnderground!" I finally found it and looked at the new PM from Luke.
"Kristy has our other son, Swimp right now." I felt my eye twitch more, I paused a moment to let it stop before I kept reading. "You should try parenting sometime, it's fun!" At that I fell out of the booth. gonk I quickly climbed back into the booth and took another bite of my sundae. I wrote back. "May I remind you I don't even have a BOYFRIEND, in fact, as you well know, I've NEVER had a boyfriend! OR girlfriend for that matter! Besides, what life expectancy would you give to a kid stuck with me? I don't even have access to my house anymore!"
I sent the message, finished my sundae, and slipped out of the diner into the streets of Barton town. I walked through the streets with my head down, keeping to the shadows. The arenas loomed in the distance. hmm... I thought, Maybe I should check how my pictures are doing in the Arenas... I also spotted the orphanage from the corner of my eye. I hesitated, looking from the arenas to the orphanage. My head swiveled to the forums as well. I groaned and sighed in defeat. Heading to the orphanage.
I'm just seeing what the kids are like... I told myself, entering the building. I was immediately assaulted by the receptionist.
"YOU THERE!!! YOU'RE LOOKING AT ADOPTING AREN'T YOU!?!"
"I, uh, well-" I stuttered.
"COME THIS WAY! I'LL SHOW YOU THE KIDS!"
"Er, o-"
"BE CAREFUL THOUGH!! SOME OF THE KIDS BITE!"
"Er..."
The lady led me into a room full of loud children. There was a young girl bawling in one corner, a boy with a younger girl clinging to his leg. A kid with moppy hair in a straight jacket, a boy in a pile of kittens, among others. The lady pointed to the boy in the straight jacket.
"THAT THERE'S DOGBRAIN! HE'S GOOD FOR PEOPLE THAT DON'T MIND SOME LATER LEGAL ISSUES!"
I shrunk back, hoping my cloak would eat my right about now. We could be in the forums right about now, you idiot! But noooo! We had to go to the orphanage! I thought. The lady next pointed to an Asian girl with purplish hair that covered her eyes.
"THAT'S SUNAKO! ALL THE OTHER KIDS SAY SHE'S A WITCH, BUT I DON'T BELIEVE IN THOSE KINDSA THINGS OF COURSE! I JUST WANT HER TO FIND A GOOD HOME!"
I nodded and the lady moved on, now pointing to a one legged girl with an eye patch and pigtails. She would look good in lolita... I thought, looking at her. She caught me looking at her and gave a scared look. My fangs must've been showing again. They tended to scare kids.
"AND THAT THERE'S ANGELA! SHE'D BE GOOD FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T MIND TAKING CARE OF A KID WITH SO MANY DISABILITIES!" the lady explained.
I nodded, then noticed a girl standing away from all the children in a black and white hoodie and a pleated skirt. She had brown hair, the same color as mine before I dyed it blue and green she held a worn stuffed animal at her side. She stared straight at me. I noticed my mouth was wide open, showing off my fangs nicely. I snapped my mouth shut.
"THAT'S JAY, THERE!" the lady said noticing us staring at each other, "SHE'S A BIT STRANGE, NOT SCARED OF THE RACCOON LIKE THE OTHERS, SHE DOENS'T SEEM SCARED OF ANYTHING REALLY!!!"
I nodded, still staring at her. "I'll adopt her..." I said. The lady clapped her hands and walked off. A few moments later I shook my head and looked around. What was that just then? The lady came back with the forms to sign. My eyes widened and I looked up at Jay, who was smiling evilly. My eye twitched again and my jaw dropped....
Crap... The girl would survive...
