Wow, the dance last night was soooooooo much fun!!!! I dressed in a yukata, put my hair up in chopsticks, and carried my Japanese fan. Terra and I danced a lot, and had lots of fun.
One time when we were taking a break from the loud music this guy came up to me and said something like "wow, is your costume Japanese?" Happy that he didn't mistake it for Chinese I said, "Yeah, and my sister got it for me in Japan".
"I want to go to Japan!" He exclaimed.
"Cool, me too, but I had school."
"I did too," cut it Terra.
"Terra, you weren't invited," I pointed out.
"Well, see ya," the guy said, and left.
"Who WAS he?" Terra demanded.
"I have no idea," I said truthfully.
"You mean he was an absolute STRANGER?"
"Yeah...."
"You should've asked him to dance," she suggested.
"Why?"
"Well, he was certainly looking at you like he wanted to," she informed me.
"No way!" I squeeked blushing.
Then, after I pause I said, "was he really?"
"Yeah, he was totally staring at you smiling," she said, imitaing the look.
I pretended not to care, but I mean really, who doesn't like guys to like them?
Later, Terra and I left again to take a break, because cotton eyed Joe had just played and we were really out of breath. We wandered into the hallway where my French classroom is, and sat down. I took out my fan and we fanned ourselves and suddenly I heard someone say
"Konnichiwa."
It was the guy again.
"Konnichiwa," I said back to him.
"Gutentag," Terra said unhelpfully, "I don't know any Japanese."
"I don't really either," the guy said.
"I know some words, but that's about it," I confessed.
"She can sing songs in Japanese," Terra said.
"Really?" The guy asked.
"Yeah" I said modestly, "like the Chobits theme song, a few Inu-Yasha themes and..."
"You like anime??" He cut in eagerly.
"I loooove it!"
And off we went.
After a little while of talking about anime Terra and I went back to the dance. We danced, but it is very hard to dance in a kimono, so after awhile, when it was almost time to leave, we went upstairs. Mysteriously, anime-guy appeared and began talking to us. We talked and then Twist and Shout came on so I had to dance to that. After the song was over Terra and I left, and anime guy was just walking in.
"You guys done already?" he asked.
"I just had to dance to that song, I love the Beatles," I answered.
He joined us in our walk upstairs.
"Lemme guess," he said excitedly, "you hate rap."
"YES!" I said emphatically, but then said, to refrain from sounding....I don't know ish, "well, any genre can be good, but I haven't heard any good rap songs."
"Yeah, it's just noise" he said.
By this point we had reached the top of the stairs. One of his friends came up and talked to him, using his name.
"Wait, what's your name?" Terra asked when his friend had left.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry! I didn't remember my manners. My brain rotted from playing so many video games (my kind of guy). My name is L.J."
"I'm Amy and this is Terra," I said.
He half shook our hands, half high-fived us.
"So, are you guys sophomores? Juniors?"
"No, freshman," I answered.
"SERIOUSLY?" He asked.
"Yeah."
He didn't seem at all turned off by this.
We left and he seemed very sad, and told us to look out for him in teh halls and said he'd do the same.
