Silently, I lean back, turning away from the harsh reality. My waist connects with the counter as I push my weight against it to balance myself. A wonderful world opens up before me. Beautiful lush scenery, mythical creatures move about freely and in the distance I can hear laughter of the playful kind. It intrigues me but I do not move. I take it all in with a large, calming breath. A take a step and feel the light mist from a waterfall. Through the trees I can see a beautiful waterfall tumbling down into a small lake. A beautiful angelic creature drinks from the edge of the lake before trotting off into the distance.
The light breaks through the treetops in rays, illuminating small patches of the forest bed. I step lightly across the fallen leaves which cover the unbothered trail. My feet are familiar with the floor, stepping in the same places as before yet I am unused to it. A new feeling, a new memory. I reach out, my hands falling to the same places as before, the same branches, the same leaves now coloured. The season is changing, but it seems to have always been autumn.
Music is playing somewhere near by, a haunting ballad strumming along with beautiful singing. I feel nostalgic. I fall forwards, the forest floor engulfing me. It is now night, the stars are littered across the night sky. Somewhere, the same music plays, a language I don't understand but it's meaning haunts my soul. Now, the moonlight drifts through the treetops, it is the only light within the forest. The waterfall is glowing in the soft moonlight, sparkling. I move closer as fireflies gently glide past me, lighting up here and there.
My foot, now bare, dips into the cool lake water before I pull it back in slight hesitation. It is cold yet inviting. A deep breath, I submerge my legs into the cool water, the feeling of a small fish tickles my legs. I take a moment to notice the beauty around me. I step forward, intending to walk deeper into the lake but I slip...
and almost hit the oven across from me. I shake my head before turning around. The counter is now in front of me, food placed in small containers everywhere. The heat hits me first before the nose comes filtering back in. The same old. I turn to help a customer as a small firefly drifts in through the window and drifts past my face before disappearing. I smile softly before returning to my job.
