You lied to me. "No, I swear..." This is not a gift. "Yes, it is; think of all that you've done! All you've accomplished! All the lives you've saved!" It is a curse. He stared at her, or at where he guessed she was in the shadows before him, eyes wide with horror. His comrades lay around him, bodies torn asunder and lying in pools of their own blood. "Why are you doing this? Why use your gift this way! We need your help. The enemy will overwhelm the city if you don't help us!" No. She turned and began to walk away. He fell to his knees. "Please! Save us! You are our only hope, Aina!" No. I won't be your monster anymore. And then she was gone, and he was alone with the dead, trembling with fear and pain and shock that he could not control, his mind slowly drifting off into an endless cycle of one horrific image after another. The madness. The blood. The screams. The sounds that he did not want to think about, the sights he so wished he could unsee. You lied to me. But he hadn't! There was so much that she could do, so many people she could save... Why couldn't she understand that? So much blood... It was everywhere... How would he explain... and the screams... So animal... She was such an animal... Inhuman... I won't be your monster anymore. But she will always be a monster... This was all his fault... And so his sanity left him, too.
