Well, I went and did it. I nicked my razor. Before I go any further, you should all know that it still works perfectly fine, since the messed up bit is only about a square millimeter in size and it's near the tip of the razor, whereas I use the middle for most shaving maneuvers. I was half-way through shaving when it happened, so I carried on and it performed as well as it always does. I still feel bad about it, though.
Incidentally, this is exactly why I brought the black plastic handled Ichabod Conk razor with me to Olympia, instead of my Kingswood Thiers-Issard. This is the one that I'm learning on. Specifically, learning not to do stupid stuff like I did yesterday that dents the edge. Maybe maybe maybe with a lot of skilled honing it could be repaired, but I don't have any experience with honing whatsoever, so I really don't even know that for sure.
It seems strange that it would be so easy to do such a thing to a piece of metal that, in most of my experience, seems heavy and hard and very solid. But of course, that really only describes the spine of the razor. I mean, if that part gets dented I'll be really surprised. All it took to dent the actual cutting edge was a gentle bump on the faucet of my sink. I hardly even noticed that I did it, but I can see the indentation right now, as I look at it. It's extra sparkly, and it would look kinda pretty if it didn't imply that I screwed up.
And NOW I remember a piece of advice that I read somewhere on the internet a long time ago, something along the lines of "you should use a damp sponge or cloth to wipe lather off the razor to minimize the amount of time it spends under the faucet. Faucets and hard counter edges are the the easiest things to accidentally dent your razor on."
Oh well.
