The confirmation of rumors that 5th Doctor Peter Davison and 10th Doctor David Tennant were going to meet is very welcome news. While it is likely to be ~ 15 minutes like previous specials, it is something nonetheless.

Doctor Who has a rare ability to dig into its own history to create striking images. Seeing the two Doctors standing side by side only reminds me how there are so many possibilities which could be explored. If this new series survives to see Doctor Who’s 45th anniversary, I honestly think they should round up all the surviving Doctors and do a major special more in the vein of the Three Doctors and the Five Doctors .Its a unique opportunity to get as many cast members of this program together to celebrate something quite special. I personally don’t care if they’ve aged or expanded their waistlines. Doctor Who is Sci-Fi, these things can be explained in a number of ways. All you need is a little imagination. Here’s hoping!
I’ve often said that RTD’s (producer Russell T. Davies) biggest mistake was not having the Brigadier show up in Series 1 of the new program. I give him kudos for including UNIT, but really what is UNIT without the Brig showing up. Call me crazy, I know he’s nearly 80, but I don’t care if he rolls up in a wheelchair. The Brigadier, more than any other character, is quite probably his best friend. Unlike companions which come and go, the Brigadier has met more incarnations of the Doctor than anyone. If we include Doctor Who’s “expanded universe” (to borrow a Star Wars phrase) he’s met them all except the ones from the new series. I hate to be gloomy, but The Brigadier, like the older Doctors, will not be around forever. I think it would be a crime not to use them. I’m not trying to advocate the flooding of the new series with guests from the old. But I think that there is a chance to do something cool. The particular format of Doctor Who (a show about space & time travel) lends itself to bringing together characters / actors that are part of a 40 year history. That is something rare in Sci-Fi. The only other Sci-Fi franchise that could possibly pull it off (and has done so) is Star Trek.
Well, I suppose I've ranted enough. For the moment I just can't wait till Time Crash!
