Alright, so I think it's awesome that PlayStation came out
with another system, but there's only one downside..
Will the PS2 lose its popularity? For Example, when the
PS2 initially came out, the PlayStation definitely lost TONS
of it's popularity. Now you can't even buy games in the average
video game store. I know it was sad to all owners of a PlayStation,
but an awesome beginning to the PS2.

I guess I'm just kind of worried about the same thing happening
to the PS2 with the PS3's arrival..
I mean, the PS3 is awesome, but the PS2 has always been my
favorite..

What do you guys think?

I think that if Sony wants to stay in business they'll continue to support the PS2 until the PS3's down to $300 at the most. Completely abandoning their most successful system for something with a horrible launch library is like committing financial suicide.

The PS2 still has a strong few years ahead. And the PS1 thing isn't true. Sony sold more PS1's the year the PS2 came out than any other year before then. I actually got my PS1 the year the PS2 came out 3nodding .

Every friggen consol has had a sucktastic library. The PS2's was PATHETIC! So was the PS1's, The XBOX's, THe GC's, The Wii's, & the 360s! And I'm not counting the classic consols!
What do youmean 'abadoning their most susccessful consol'? It's last gen, this is their next gen consol. PS3's just the next stage of Sony Computer Entertainment. And in fact, the PS2's life span was roughly 8 yrs before the PS3 launched. The Xbox's was just 4. Sony's just giving us the latest & greatest in gaming tech. And a 100 games are being released for the PS3 this year.

Fact of the matter is with every gen that comes out as a successor to a previous gen console the console is going to lose its support and they are going to stop making games for it. This causes the games to be harder to find unless your like me and keep every game you get and every console you get. What can I say I am hopeless.

Microsoft made a mistake when the 360 came out and said almost directly after that they would no longer support the xbox. Then all the games they said it was compatible with it wasn't and we wont get into the heating issues and what not you.

Sony so far has not announced that they are ceasing the support or production of the Playstation 2's and at this point if they did they would be making a fatal mistake. They have already made one in the PS3 not only are they losing money on the PS3 but they have stated that they are not dropping it in price.

Sad thing is Sony can get away with this, there gaming consoles? well that is not where there money comes from. The bulk of Sony's cash comes from electronics other than gaming consoles which is why they stated they will not lower the price on the ps3's and why they are not going to be making anymore of the ones with 30 gig hard drives in them I believe.

Both Sony and Microsoft have made big mistakes with the new gen consoles and right now Nintendo is reaping the benefits.

The prodcution of the 20GB PS3 stopped in April since no one was bying it. The $100 price drop in the 60GB PS3 is due to the fact that they are stopping it's production once the 80GB PS3 comes out. It will have Motorstorm packaged in with it for $599.99. There are predictions out saying that the 80GB will probably go down $100 but those are just predictions.

I'm only saying that PS1 is nowhere near as popular...
