 Origins
The Bateau Tribe originally started as a small group of wandering foxes on the coastline, although they were not an official tribe yet. One day they were trapped on an island by a hurricane, and the foxes came close to losing their lives to falling trees and other dangers. When it was beginning to seem hopeless, Ianthe wandered off on her own to find shelter for them and stumbled upon a recent shipwreck.
The foxes found shelter inside the the wreckage, and it wasn't long before they beleived that Ianthe had been lead to safety by the Modeitity of the Oceans. They soon formed a more permanent community that would eventually become a tribe, with Ianthe as the Elder.
The Foxes
Foxes of the Shipwreck Islands started out as pessimistic, but the Days of Sorrow have passed. Tribe members are encouraged to be upbeat and outgoing, and many of them can be seen cliff diving together into the crystal blue waters. Bateau foxes enjoy a more relaxed lifestyle these days, and are ready to have some fun.
Bateau foxes are for the most part diurnal, but during the Week of Founding to celebrate the discovery of the shipwreck, the Bateau foxes will become nocturnal to reflect on the stars that guided them and sailors of the past, and the powerful life-giving force of the Modeity of the Oceans.
Beliefs
To Bateau foxes, the ocean is the force behind all life, and their shipwreck is a representation of what the oceans stand for: Freedom, The Unknown, and Insignificance.
Freedom: Freedom is seen as being out on the ocean. It is recognized that almost no fox will ever be able to set sail, but Bateau foxes keep to this hope to boost their reason for living.
The Unknown: On top of being Freedom, the open ocean also represents what these foxes do not know. Little beyond the Shipwreck Islands and a few neighboring areas is familiar to the foxes, and so the ocean is highly revered for its power over fate- it shapes the lives of these foxes and affects the area around them.
Insignificance: The most important of the three key beliefs. It is in this view that Bateau foxes recognize how little they are in comparison to the expanse of ocean around them. The waters dominate, and no fox can hope to control the world. Arrogance is looked upon with great dislike.

Elder: Ianthe  Shaman:Hunter:Gatherer:Caspian Scout: Nereida, Merlin Carer: Marina, Nerissa Regular Member Nausika, Aidan, Nadia, Leviathan, Mortimer, Sani Note: Scouts in Bateau double as watchmen, guarding the borders of the Islands. Typically, when scouting, they are sent out to find fresh water sources. Hunters need an excellent background in the knowledge of fishing. More than one fox can hold a position at this time. Note: Kits who wish to take a position (excluding regular tribe member) are place under the supervision of an adult of that same position until growth. Basically, kits become apprentices. Potentials:Slots:Shaman:2 Hunter:2 Gatherer:2 Scout: 1 Carer:0 Regular Member:Unlimited
