I think Jacob's real. Here's something about him that I read in this months erm, TV Guide.
"The apparent leader of the Others, the entity in the cabin only some (like Ben and Locke) can see, is some manifestation of the island kept confined by a perimeter of volcanic ash. Theories about Jacob's true identity range from an island native (one who built the four-toed statue) to an ordinary man, who deceives others."
The island does have powers, so Jacob could have the ability to be invisible, or only let certain people see him. *shrugs*

Yeah I think Jacob is real but I'm not too sure who or what he is.
Is Jack's dad alive? Why does Jacob use him to represent him?
