"Parakeet"
We've all had pets, right? Well, my very very very first pet was, you guessed it, a parakeet. Now, I was about 6 or 7, and I was a dumb kid (some things never change). When yer lookin' fer a pet, don't you ever get that vibe, that feeling of 'I WANT THAT -insert animal here- AND NOTHING ELSE'. That was me. It was like the movies, the atmosphere got all foggyish and music was swelling in the background. Ok, sure, 'If you like Pina Coladas' isn't the most romantic song ever, but that's beside the point!
I HAD to have that bird. It was crusty, gray, I think I heard it cough, too. But, I wanted it.
"It's old, Andrea." My sister, who was about 8, the age where you know EVERYTHING in life.
"No it's not!"
"Get a different one,"
But we got that one, and I was happy as a clam...With arms. (Unless they have arms to masturbate with, I think clams would be pretty pissed off most the time)I named'm Jackson (After a baseball player...glove. Not MJ!).
c**k-a-doodle-doo! Morning! I woke up and ran downstairs to see my new birdy...There it was, lying on the bottom of the cage. But, I thought it was sleeping. And within moments, as soon as my sis showed up, it turned into a Mnty Python sketch.
"Andrea, it's dead."
"No it's not! It's sleeping!"
"Birds don't sleep on the ground! It DIED"
"Nu-uh!"
"It's dead"
"...No...No it's not...Jackson?"
It was dead. It took 3 hours of negotiation for me to figure it out. So, we tell dad, and we're gonna go back for the small pet refund...My dad, so sophisticated, takes Jackson's feathery little carcass and put it in a ziploc baggy. Y'know what he did with the baggy? He put the baggy in his front coat pocket. We went back to the pet store with a DEAD BIRD HEAD STICKING OUT OF HIS POCKET. People were staring at us like we were NUTS.
Oh, I think this kinda mentally scared me for ETERNITY. We go to the guy behind the counter, and tellm' it died. You know what he does? HE THROWS THE BIRD IN THE GARBAGE CAN. burning_eyes
I got a new Jackson (the second), and even though I only had the first one for one day, he's still with us in that story. smile
