My favourite Goldfish? Aaah, that's too hard to decide! With sooo many types of goldfish, it's really impossible for me to love just one the most. xd
When it comes to fancy goldfish, I do really, really like Ranchu and also Veiltail varieties.
However, pond-type goldfish never fail to captivate me. For whatever reason I love large carp, even wild carp. Though I especially love koi, in all of their various colours and varieties. There's nothing better than watching brightly coloured, umblemished koi swim in a crystal clear pond. Sometimes watching them, or looking at pictures of them, I feel I want to live in their pond as well ;~; !
The common "feeder" goldfish can get quite beautiful as well, and look really pleasant in small ponds. Sadly they don't get the chance to grow to their full potential a lot of the time. (Hence the name "feeder" goldfish T.T)
I've been looking forward to getting a home with more space so I can have a tank or small pond with only common goldfish. They are a lot of fun to watch. heart

I also love Comets, I have 3 sarassa comets at the moment, they are so active and curious. It's fun to watch them, they are very touchy feely.
Personnally I think comets are the most elegant goldfish, pitty they often end up as feeders. I really like the sarassa and the calico. I've also always wanted to own a bristol shubinkin, but I've yet to see one for sale.

I like comets because i know that is one of it's original forms before people started crossbreeding them. The fantails have swim harder because thier tails make more drag. if you ever watch the two types. you will notice a comet will swim effertlessly without hardly and side to side motion. a fantail wobbles it's whole body like a overweight fish or something. I feel sorry for those, and the people who encourages breeding them just because they look prettier.

They are fat especially the butterfly ones...my mom once bought two of them for my brother and me, we both favored the single comet, the other two we named "fat" and "golf ball" because that's what they reminded us of. They both ended up dying one because the comet competed better for the food and two...one got stupid and played too much with the filter. X_X

Mine's still a tiny feeder, though I think I got a little bigger from when I first got it in the summer, >.< we make fun of it because its just pass the size of a swedish gummy fish.

Heh, i put a ruler in the tank just for you now. From nose to tail tip about 12 cm (4.7 inch) Without the tail I'm guessing about 7 or 9 cm, (3 inchish). The tails are huge on two of them. The thirds tail never grew out and I think it's a common gold.

X) SO PRETTY!! *shows mom* See my fish is NOT an UGLY FISH!! One day it will be big and beautiful! just like the ugly duckling story!
heart heart
Did you get them when they were little or did you get them this big? IF you got them when they were little how long did you have them until they were this big?
Do you recommend a heater for a tiny comet in a 10 gallon tank?
What kind of comet is the one on the top? Sarassa? (=-= I think may be judging from the picture my comet may be the same kind, since it's white, gold and orange too)
*so excited to see such beautiful fish*

Haha, glad you like them. They are my sweethearts. heart I got them at about half this size, had them for two-ish years. Though goldfish can get a lot bigger.
These can fit comfortably in one hand, but years ago I used to have a pond and I'd need two hand to cup a fish's entire body. The more room you give a gold, the faster and larger it will grow, and less chance of deformations.
I'd suggest you get your lil goldy a tank mate, since these are schooling fish and they are happiest when they have some of their own kind to hang out with. But then a bigger tank will be needed eventually. As long as the fish are still small, it's not a problem, but once they grow it will get too cramped for them. My own aquarium (20 gal) is also too small. I'm just hoping my dad will dig a new pond soon sweatdrop
I doubt a heater will be necessary. What's the temperature where you live? And what's the water temperature? I live in the tropics, with an air temperature of @ 30 -35 degrees. So I'm actually cooling the water of my tank my dropping ice cubes in it, putting the tank on the draftiest area, with no direct sunlight, so the temp is @ 25-28 degrees. I think the ideal temp is 20-25, but I could be mistaken. Placing the tank close to a heater and in direct sunlight can already make a huge difference in temperature. (Though sunlight tends to cause algea, but some golds like eating some kinds of algea. They also like to nibble on live plants.) If you take an old pantyhose and make lil bags of them you can put the roots of the plants in there with some pond plant compost, and they will live longer. Do rinse the compost thoroughly.
Yes, the one on top is a Sarassa. I'll upload some more pictures tomorrow.
Sorry that this post got so huge.
