Okay...sooo....I have a 'friend'. She's nice to me and everything, but when she sees her other friends, she ditches me and doesn't even look my way. Does that mean I'm not..."cool enough" for her?
So...I got a RipStik. I love it, and don't care what you say. I told my neighbor and she wanted to try it out soooo badly. She loved it! But when I told my friend, she scowled at me and said...
"Ew...a RipStik? Those are soooo wannabe skater!!! Like, those are retarded. Why'd you even get that piece of junk? You should've gotten a REAL skateboard!!!"
I was stunned. Was that even her? Sadly, it was. How can she do this? I don't want to be a 'skater' ((I hope I'm not offending anyone who is one...but, hey.)) I just like to enjoy myself and the activities I do!!!
-sigh-

I have friends like that. It's part of life, I know. It's terribly annoying when you think you know someone and then they start changing. And what's worse, they turn their backs on you when you need them most. -growl- I know how you feel. I hope you get a little comfort in knowing that you're not the only one dealing with it.
I decided to switch to another clique. You know, not goth or emo anymore. There was this thing A kandii kid. And I went to that race. Now they're scene kids but I don't reach their qualifications. The kandii kids believed in PLUR, Peace Love Unity Respect. We loved rainbows and wore billions of bracelets up to our elbows. We went to raves and listened to techno and most of all we were very peaceful. But my school decided that we were a problem. Our colorful appearence was a "distraction" and it wasn't "NORMAL" to wear so many bracelets. So they banned the kandii kid race.
Now then, what does this have to do with your situation? WEll I told my ex best friend about it and she told me that I didn't have the stuff to be one of them, that I'd back out and go back to being emo/goth. No, the only reason I did that was because my school banned it!
So, you see. Un-supportive friends are everywhere. You just have to grin and bear it or tell them to ******** off.

I can't really say I know the feeling; I never had many friends, and the few I do are... nerds. That doesn't really change. We play video games, we shun phones in favor of IMing (it's easier to understand people when they type...), and we dress up as pirates and go to the midnight showing of At World's End, regardless of the fact that we could have simply gone at eight o'clock. I think it'd be hard to back out on being a nerd... we just are what we are.
The last time I really lost a friend was in seventh grade. She joined the drill team. Dance team, really; I've NEVER seen them do anything a drill team should do. Color guard's the real drill team... and I HATE the color guard at our school. So, yeah. She turned all preppy, and got obsessive about boys... (I, on the other hand, didn't give half a s**t about boys until ninth grade; and even then, I've only liked the same guy since then). Probably the last non-nerdy friend I had. But, even then, we never fought; we just sort of stopped talking altogether.
But, what I do know is this; people aren't worth it if they aren't willing to accept you as you are, with all the mistakes that you make. They have to be able to forgive and forget, even when you do something as stupid as ask them to a dance. Twice. (I'll wait 'till senior prom, if I have to... We're nerds, we're cool like that). They have to be able to look over faults like the fact that you talk too fast, trip over air (I swear, it solidifies sometimes!), and that you have a tendency to do dumb things like forget to put them in the major grade video project (Martin, if you read this, I still swear it was an accident. And my threat still holds if you tell a soul who 'he' is...).
A friend won't ditch you if you break down crying in the middle of a school dance; they'll sit in the stairwell with you until you stop. And then help you take off what's left of your makeup (I look better without it, anyway; stupid mom making me wear it). A friend won't say "dude, you look like crap today", though they may point you in the direction of a mirror so you can make your own decisions. A friend won't judge you by the clothes you wear, the way you look, the fact that you disagree with them and say "No, Will Turner is not the hottest character in Pirates! Commodore-or-whatever-rank-he-is Norrington is! Just... without the wig..." They may laugh at you on occasion, or even on a daily basis if they're a sarcastic person. But they'll never do anything to intentionally hurt you.
Wow, my fingers hurt. I'm gonna stop now.

Not to mention, a good friend with almost always completely drop/forget everything they're doing to help you. Like I've said somewhere to someone before, friends are like your net. They'll catch you when you fall. And pick you up when you fall on your a**. And when you're out on the cold, lonely, and everyone's deserted you, they'll bring you a warm cup of hot coco and bring you inside, put a blanket over you and talk about your problems. I'm not saying that I'm a perfect friend always god knows I've said some things and ditched a few people but dammit I try! And trying means at least I give a rat's a**. :] Now I don't exactly get the same treatment. When I'm on myspace and I have problems Caps lock and all ONE person says something. Just one. And that's my ex boyfriend. He broke my heart but is still my friend. What does that tell you?

That's terrible.
I've never had a 'true friend' that I can tell all my secrets too. Not even the friends I've had since I was little.

I don't tell my secrets to anyone not even my best friends ninja Yes I trust nobody
Anyways...
About your friend...I think I had a friend like that. She was my best friend but then when we entered middle school she got kinda...I don't know...different. We didn't hang out as much, she went with her friends, etc. We sort of just drifted away but we still talk and hang out now and then just not as much as we used too. She kinda pisses me off somehow.
Not sure if that had anything to do with your problem. I'm not good at these kinda of stuff. sweatdrop

Well we all change slightly around certain people, I know I have friends that I prefer more than others, and I probably do what your friend does often without realizing it, and I'm sure she feels the same way. Just stay there as her friend, she'll come around.
And if she doesn't, end it, that simple.

If something makes you happy, as long as it doesn't hurt anyone, your friends should be happy for you... to be unsupportive is not being a good friend. xp

Exactly. And so what if you do want to be a wannabe skater (not saying that you are, this is fully theoretical)? In what way could it infringe on her well-being, reputation, or name? Therefore, why should it matter to her except to be happy that you're happy?

i think you should do what you wanna do. If your "friend" doesn't support that then she isn't a friend. It sounds like she is all about materalistic things and what the 'in crowd' is into. Which is just stupid because the popular kids aren't even cool... (trust me i'd know xD) and just because you got a Rip stick doesn't say anything about you personally. people need to stop sterotyping and acting like we are in elementary (if anyone is i apologize) because it's really really stupid to catorgize people on what they own! (tangent sorry) and yeah....she doesn't sound like a friend to me. Not at all.
