Which of the two pickups, in your opinion, are better for your personal style of guitar-playing and why?

Humbucker for me. I can't stand single coils. And I can't get the tone I want with singles.

Even though my little Squier Strat only has singles, I would really appreciate a humbucker or two. Just can't beat 'em for that extra sustain and midrange crunch.

I was just wondering, because I'm considering buying a new guitar and I'm not entirely sure what I should look for.
Single coils are better for higher-pitched, solo-esque stuff, right? And humbuckers are more of a rhythm guitar thing, yes?
I could be completely off on this... sweatdrop Please excuse me, I'm not too experienced in this sort of thing. I'm just a simple guitar player that really knows nothing about guitars...

Spade Sanosuke Humbuckers A mixture of both isn't that bad though. H-S-H indeed, look at my guitar XD but humbuckers aren't called that fr no reason, they "buck" out the hum single coils give. plus you can get it so you can choose which coil you want to use and such

It really depends what I'm playing. I like a mix of them, to tell the truth. I like guitars with a double humbucker, and single single coil set up... they play well if they are decent pick ups... but if I'm playing Jazz or Blues, I prefer something with only single coils.

[Macabre] What is the difference exactly? I haven't learned it yet... sweatdrop A humbucker is two single coils that have opposite polarities and are linked together. This gives a heavier, warmer tone than a single coil. Humbuckers are used more for heavier rock and single coils are more for blues, jazz, classic and soft rock though both can be used for both. I personally prefer single coils because I mostly play blues and classic rock, but I use a guitar with humbuckers if I'm playing rhythm.

I knew what they were, just not what they did to the tone >.< In that case, i'd probably go with a combination. H-S-H. My old guitar had that and it sounded really good. But two humbuckers works good for me too :3

Spade Sanosuke Humbuckers A mixture of both isn't that bad though. H-S-H Really?? I can't use a H-S-H.. The Single coil always messed up my playing. *I used to use a friends guitar every now and then. It was an H-S-H.*

I use humbuckers almost exclusively; but I can also split coils on my JS if I want to. I don't very often, but if I want that spanky strat sound I can get it. I don't find that single coils give me enough body to my tone, so I use them in rhythms where it should be thin and airy.
