Chapter 4:

:: Sora turned to look up at Riku with wide, questioning eyes. ”Wont your friends be angry that you left them to…walk with me?” The boy asked in a small voice, his innocent eyes seemed to be peering deep into Riku’s soul.
It was too bad Riku didn’t have a soul…::

Before a son becomes a thief. Before a brother becomes a man, both must start at the same place.
Heaven places a blessing upon a pregnant mothers womb in hopes that the child inside will be pure. With the blessing, the child is able to withstand the sensual call of sin and the promise of power the underworld offers them….at least that is what is hoped….
However, when two children coincide within the same womb, only one can receive heaven’s blessing, becoming the fabled “white twin.” Thus, leaving the remaining child to be tainted by the malice and scorn of the underworld, brining forth the feared “black twin.”
These two twins directly oppose each other, resembling the force of yin and yang within the universe. Good and evil, black and white, light and dark, blessed and damned. All of these forces keep the balance with the world and must never be mixed; and so the “black twin” is killed before ever getting a chance to truly live.
If this belief is true, what would happen if the wrong twin was killed? Would the “black twin,” able to grow and mature, be tainted so greatly by the underworld that he would rain pain and misery on everyone around him causing chaos and anarchy? Or…is the belief mealy faux, made to justify the practice of killing the unknown….

But though Riku did not have a soul, as he stared into Sora’s deep blue eyes he felt something stir within him. That something was an emotion he had not felt for so long he had forgotten its existence entirely. The two watched each other for some time before something in the back of Riku’s mind reminded him that Sora had asked him a question.
“Nawh, they won’t be angry. I live with the guys; they can live without me for a little while, besides they’re in 3rd hour with us, and Cloud’s in my seminar.” Riku explained with a small smile on his face as the relief shine through Sora’s eyes.
“Oh!” Sora exclaimed suddenly, “speaking of seminar, we better get going before we’re late.” Sora smiled as he adjusted his backpack on his shoulder and grabbed Riku’s hand, pulling the silver haired teen out of the room.
Riku allowed Sora to pull him into the hallways before he drew the younger boy back lightly. Riku laughed as Sora sent him a confused look over his shoulder.
”We don’t need to rush, look at all the people still in the hall.” Riku said, his smirk causing the younger boy to flush.
“Oh! You’re right, I’m sorry…” Sora whispered, his eyes traveling down to the floor. Sora heard Riku shift and then felt the silver haired boy’s presence next to him. A hand was placed under Sora’s chin and his face was slowly brought up to meet Riku’s gaze.
“Hey, don’t worry about it; it’s nothing to get so embarrassed over.” Riku soothed, his haughty smirk replaced with a gentle smile. Sora’s mood shifted greatly under Riku’s calming gaze, and he slowly began to smile. With a sudden laugh Sora pulled out of Riku’s grasp and turned away from the elder.
“You know, you’re a lot different than everyone else in this school makes you out to be, I didn’t expect you to act the way you do.” Sora explained as he rocked on his heels, his hands holding onto his backpack straps.
Riku stared at the youth’s back, watching with a tender smile as the boy fidgeted, before taking a step forward. “And what’s that suppose to mean? Have people been talking about me?” Riku asked the younger in a mock-arrogant tone.
Sora nodded and laughed slightly. “People told me to watch out for you and your friends, they made you out to be bad people, well….They kind of made it out like you weren’t people at all…” Sora drawled, shifting the weight on his shoulders. “But, they’re totally wrong!” Sora said with a nod before turning to face Riku.
The smile on the young brunet’s face was almost enough to take Riku’s breath away, the way everything around Sora seemed to glow entranced Riku and he felt that nothing could be worse than looking away from the youth in front of him.
