What kind of music do you listen to when you read? do you have different types of music for different books? I remember listening to A1 alot when reding Harry Potter 3, so whenever I listen to either "Take On Me" A1 version, "Too Bad" or basically any of the tracks from the album A1- The A List I can remember a helluvelot of Harry Potter three.
It's the same with Spander fanfiction (Spike/Xander from Buffy the Vampire Slayer), then Come Here Boy from Frou Frou is the top song. but yeah, any Imogen Heap or Frou Frou songs will do when reading the wonderful Spander.
For Lord of the Rings, the obvious choice (for me anyways) is Enya.

Actually, when I'm reading I either tune out everything, which means I don't bother with music, or I have to be paying attention to my surroundings (either at work or something similar), so I can't have music there, either. So, I don't generally associate any special music with my reading. If there's a song referenced in a fanfic, I may listen to it later, to see if it help my understanding of the fic's mood, though.

I can't really remember any particular music that I associate with certain books or characters. My short-term memory works to my advantage, I suppose, but I generally tend to tune it out anyway so I don't think it matters. The music is just background noise. Without it no one would know where I am in the house because apparently I just blend in with my surroundings when I curl up to read!
However, I have this music association problem when it comes to video games because I tire of the background music of the game and decide to blast my own tunes instead. Curse you RPGs for being so long!

For the longest time I listened to Linkin Park as I read a lot of Sci-Fi and Fantasy. And whenever I listen to Hybrid Theory I always think of Terry Goodkind, Anne McCaffrey, Mercedes Lackey, and Orson Scott Card.
And when I read Classic classics, lately I've been listening to Rufus wainwright and Ryan Adams, the latter being Folk/Rock.

I like to listen to the Dark Side of the Moon album by Pink Floyd because there aren't a lot of words so it fills up the silence without making me confused. It also makes me think a lot.

crying I can't listen to music when I read! crying I love music and reading soooo much I can't pay attention to both at the same time. It's either one or the other. I usually try to read but get distracted by the music.

I usually put on my playlist of everything I've put on my computer (which is a little of almost everything) with shuffle turned on, for some reason it always turns out to be something reletively apropriate for what I'm reading.

I prefer silence when I read but if I do listen to music it's probably classical or instrumental.

I listen to country, classics, j-pop, well pretty much anything when I read. It helps me concentrate and drown out outside noises so that I can read easier.
