This is the classic series, right? Will they be starting all the way from the beginning with An Unearthly Child?

Yeah, Ceribri's right. Annanoria & her husband have TiVo & it turned up on their schedule (they set Doctor Who on it all the time so when it shows up they know about it! smile ). I guess you can find out what the program is going to be because her husband confirmed it's CE. Drat! I mean, I LIKE CE, but I was really hoping for Classic Series! They used to show ALL the old episodes, and in order! It was great! It took MONTHS to go through an entire cycle from "Unearthly Child" all the way to "Survival" & then start again--and that was showing it 5 nights a week!

Well that's lame. I mean, what's the point of showing Eccleston again when people can just pick up the DVDs?
I miss having Doctor Who on PBS. I used to have a handful of Pertwee, and nearly all the episodes from Tom Baker through Sylvester McCoy on crappy VHS copies (for some reason they skipped over Brain of Morbius... I think it accidentally got dropped during one of the pledge drives). Lost those a while ago during a move, unfortunately.
...I remember being annoyed that they never showed any of the Hartnell or Troughton stories. They must have had something against B&W.
My PBS station used to show Doctor Who on Saturday nights in compilation format (all the episodes of a single story edited together). It was usually followed by some short astronomy show hosted by Jack Horkheimer. I vaguely remember the show being called 'Star Gazer', but according to wikipedia at the time I was watching it (1989-1992) the show's name was 'Star Hustler'. Star Hustler... yeah, I can see why they changed that name. whee

And they showed all of them, from the first Doctor up to.... er... actually I think they stopped after 6 or something, I can't remember. But I missed a lot of them, so I wish that they'd put it back up so I can re-watch it all... crying

Sigh. They probably want to encourage people to buy the DVDs by showing Nine's episodes. Jeez. What I wouldn't give for a channel that showed the classic episodes.

I bet BBC have it expensive to get the Classic Series. But maybe if we show them we're still out here & want Who, they might start buying it again! biggrin There used to be at least one Who fan working at UNC-TV...and in it's "golden age" they went ALL OUT. I've probably raved about it here before. They'd have it in the evening, 5 days a week--and that would be showing all episodes in order. Say it's up to Davison, for this example. And then it also showed at night, about 11:30, 5 niights a week--also showing all the episodes in order. They started doing that some time later, so it's at a different point in the continuity...say Pertwee. And every Saturday (barring some special programming that may cancel it) there was an entire adventure editted together, also showing all in order--this one, say, at Tom Baker. Ah, man...those were the days! heart We'll never see that kind of exposure again.

Congrats! I wish we had the show (though especially the classics) on PBS. That would rule! Mom says that when she was in Leadership School in Arizona (at least I think that's what she said she was doing), she saw some of the classic series on PBS. Lucky!

If you want your state's PBS to show new or old Who, you need to let them know that! Try to make petitions & send them in. Show them that there are lots of folks who want it...and that it could make more people want to donate when the pledge drives come up! 3nodding

But I will try and get an informative email sent in to find out if VA PBS is gonna get it..
