Ok,

I've been working on my warrior for a long time now- and she is my second high level character as to date. From my combinded experince as a DSP class- I have discovered oh-snap buttons really help out in a bad situation.

My build for my warrior (rebuilding it when I come back from hiatus, if you look at her now as my friend is borrowing her- it'll make you giggle at me)- Lanford will be: 27/11/23

Before my break, and tanking in the new outland dungeons (Ramparts, Blood Furance, Underbog, Slave Pens, Crpyts and Tombs), this concept of this build worked very effeictivly.

I relied on my rends as much as my sunders, and always stood in defensive stance. on pulls that I was allowed to, or if I had enough rage with to many mobs, I would use sweeping stirkes- stance dance back to defensive and thunder clap (thank god for that, gg blizz ).

My point to this, however, is to inqury the requirements and need for a full prot warrior/paladin for heroic dungeons or even possibly Kharazan. Because that deep in the tree, you only get ttwo more agro moves (sheild bash, devestate), the imp stance and vataility.

Will theses be nessisary to survive?

Short answer: no, you don't need to be a deep protection warrior to offtank Karazhan trash or tank in heroics, but you will need gear to compensate.

Your current spec will not accomplish much, you'll have poor dps and will be unable to tank most heroic content anyway.

Imagine tank quality as a slide rule:
shitty tank <-----------> superior tank.

Spec, playing skill (reaction time, namely), and gear all push a warrior one way or the other. Fantastic tanking gear can compensate for a dps spec, a full protection spec can cover for a warrior with mediocre gear, and good playing skill can make up for both.

To retain the most utility, try an endless rage/last stand build and carry around a tanking set with you at all times.

No MS or bloodthirst in a build attempting DPS?

lol. What are you gonna do all day, auto attack?

Arms builds without MS make me cry. And I am absolutely in love with second wind.

Having a brain helps the most when tanking. I'm not a big fan of the spec down the apropriate tree to do a job. My warrior's never gone mroe than 3 points into prot. I have the separate set of tanking gear and can hold my own well enough. Not that I ever intend to raid with her. I just like seeing things get facesmashed by a big axe.

First of all, as far as my DPS capabilities- I do just fine on the damage charts when I am supposed to be utilitezed as a DPS warrior (however, that is rare on my server). Spaming heroic strike, and appling rend is verah nice. MS is a great deal of damage, but there are other ways to get nasty crits and good gear.

I've done some revisions to my concept of this flexible warrior build.
The reason why I had things the way they were was because:

Sweeping Strikes: Pop that off in a crowd of uncontroled CC'ed mobs and smack away with your sunders to build threat once back in defensive stance

Weapon Mastery: How annoying is it to get disarmed in a pull? Uhg!! It can mean life or death in some cases

Curelty: A warrior without at least 10% crit fauils at life.

Pericing Howl: If they can't run fast enough, then they die faster. Also a good bit of threat generated in it, and prevents the runners or lost agroed mobs from running to my squishies.

Last Stand: For the lazy healers out there.

COncussive Blow: Lots of threat, and reallllah nasty in pvp or pve cases.

The unforchant thing about all of this is *I AM* the main tank, and I'm just debating on things. Does one need to be full prot to hold the agro well and or have the surivibility from how the trash or even bosses hit?

I'd like to keep my flexible build for non-heroic five man- it's beastily. But if it's not going to work for heroics and Kara, then might as well bite the bullet and go devasate/anger management.

Second Note:

If it can be gotten away with it, maybe just a sheild-bash spec will do.. Mmm Like this:

Tanking is all about Holding Aggro. Doesn't matter really how, you just need to hold it.

Taking care of that, then you concern yourself with Stamina. Without Stamina, you are a dead tank.

After that, Armor and Defense. Defense was an important factor pre-TBC, but now Armor is, so stock up on Armor if you want to live.

As someone who unfortunately played with an arms warrior in 3 (failed) heroics in a row -.- I can safely say that if you're the tank, it just won't cut it. Just like shadow won't cut it for healing, nor feral/balance or enhancement.
As for offtanking in Karazhan it shouldn't be too much of a problem as long as you're given easy trash and the MT is skilled (and, of course, the DPS knows how to manage aggro)
