With the low activity of the guild, we are thinking about hosting a story contest. So far, we're only in the planning stages, but we would like to hear what you think. There would be no limit as to how long your entry would be, but you can enter only once each time. This will be taking place on a monthly basis. If we have many people entering, then we'll consider making it once every two weeks. Entries can be either fan fiction or original stories so long as they follow ToS. The language must be English. If you have foreign words, please provide translations somewhere preferably before or after the actual story. On another note, we're looking for judges. I'm hoping to have three judges with one whose strength is in grammar and spelling, because Chibi's weakeness happens to be those. I will be one of the judges and will be judging on content of story as well as characterization and all that good stuff. Oh, I almost forgot the most important thing, prizes. Yes, there will be prizes. As to the entry free, o.O I forgot if we're going to have any. Crap. Anyways, the prize is going to be gold for now. We may go up to sealed envelopes later on. As soon as Chibi gets a job and this becomes popular. Anyways, comments and suggestions appreciated. Judge Application thread

What we have so far:
Rules:
Literacy. The judges have lives and don't want to decipher your special way of writing. This means no chatspeak and a minimum amount of spelling or grammatical errors.
While a beta isn't required, it's preferable especially if English isn't your first language.
The story can be either an original or fan fiction. If you're going to write fan fiction, be warned that the judges don't know every fandom out there. Also, please don't forget to put the disclaimer.
Straight or homosexual, we accept both types of relationships. We try to keep an open minded atmosphere. Flaming will get you a warning and a ban after so many times.
Even though we don't have a minimum or maximum amount of words/pages/etc, please keep in mind that we may have to read twenty plus fics. Long stories are good, but it will take awhile for our judges to read them. If possible, perhaps an excerpt from that story would be fine as long as it has something to do with the theme.
PG-13 and below please.
If you've entered one story for a contest, you cannot enter another, but you're welcome to try for next month. However, if you feel your second piece is better, you can swap it out. Make sure a judge knows this.

It requires commitment, but I can understand if RL gets in the way. =/ Although try not to make any commitment when you know you're busy. I participated in a monthly contest, and when the original person left, she allowed someone to take over. Said person hasn't been seen for at least three months.
Anyways, PM me with what you're good at (story lines, character development, grammar, spelling, etc.) and a sample writing. When we get this up and running, we'll see how you're with dealines and judging. Basically a trial run.

I could offer (until we actually get something really going) to do avvie art as a prize.
A rather mediocre prize, but most of my avvie art is full body anyway so...

We can do avie art and some gold for now. Maybe later on, we can have sealed envelopes for first prize, second would be gold, and third avie art or gold.

The sample is to show that you understand the concepts of the English language as well as story abilities such as organization, thought process, and etc. It doesn't have to be a ten thousand word sample. In fact, it can be one of your existing words. I'd say maybe 500 to 1,000 words though you can use more.

You can give it anytime, but if you want to be a judge when the contest starts, then sometime in the near future. I'm hoping to be able to organize the guild and most of the contest by this weekend.

Say the story was a short story of around five to eight pages - would that be short enough to submit the whole thing or would just part of it as a 'sample' be required due to length?
