Hello, I have a question for all of you.
Do you believe Harry Potter is evil?
If you do, why?
Will you explain if you do?
Or if you don't, why?

Well, I don't, and I just can't see Harry Potter being evil. I don't know if I'm missing something, or if it's not. I'm really confused.

Really, I want to do what God wants me to do, but I'm not sure if Harry potter is evil. Sorry if this is putting you out.
You can also pm me if you want. But it is not nessecary.

So will you give me your opinions?

What some christians are uptight about in regards to Harry Potter is the idea that it promotes the occult. However the witchcraft and wizardry depicted in Harry Potter is nothing like what the actual occult is like. It perpetuates the stereotypical image not anything realistic. In fact one of my all time favourite christian authors C.S. Lewis uses magic in the Narnia Chronicles to express christian truths. I can understand how christian parents might be afraid that Harry Potter might cause their children to seek out the occult but if you express to your children clearly that it's simply fantasy then I don't see why it should be a problem.

I am a minister, and I am a huge Harry Potter fan, and C.S. Lewis fan, and Tolkien fan.
The previous person stated a great point that many Christians are uptight about Harry Potter teachinga about the occult. It does have a little more to do than that. Some Christians, not me, believe Harry Potter teaches real magic spells, and that many of the children will find Harry Potter to be real. There is worry because in some opinion's there isn't enough make belive ( a bunch of human characters) which is opposite of Tolkien and Lewis who use very few "human" characters. Yet, even some Christians are dead set against Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, and Chronicles of Narnia.
I myself find them entertaining and clean.

I like Harry Potter. It does promote the occult to those who do not know better. But it is all in how you take it right?

I don't believe that Harry potter is evil, they are simply really good books However I can tell you why some think they ar evil

Me and my friends were obsessed with the books, and I litterally was obsessed I read the entire series (1-4) 35 times one year. that was how obsessed I was. I have 3 copies of each book.

I slipped from christ during the time and my life revolved in these books (partly because I was using them as a shield, many bad things were happening in my life at the time) I had another friend who was also obsessed and she was never a christian, in fact as of now, though I do not see her that often cause she moved, I am one of 2 christian friends of hers. She fell into the Harry Potter and never came back out. She began playing with spells, practicing incantations. She wanted to be like Harry potter, to live in the world of his with all her heart and soul.

I came back to my sences (though I still enjoy the books) she however is still in that state.

(and I can not tell you how serious something like attempting to become a witch is)

I don't see anything wrong with Harry Potter either. I actually see Harry Potter and his friends as positive role models for children, teaching kids things like true friendship and loyalty to friends and whatnot.

Hey, even Christians overreact to things like this.

If you are talking about whether watching it or reading the books is a bad spritual influence, I'll tell you what my brother once told me, and it made sense: Each person has their own personal relationship with God, and that it's up to the individual to decide what thye feel in their heart is something that they should not expose themselves to.

Now, for many years since HP hit the big time AND screen there have been many debates and religious flammers, claiming it's something that people don't need to be exposing to their christian children.

But tell you what, if you can go to God in prayer and feel in your hear it's not something tearing your heart and not just naggin at you, encouraging you to move against God's will and Laws, than you're fine.

For example, me? I love horror movies. i don't mind the suspence and gore. But what I cant' stand that bothers me spiritually is horror movies about ghosts and raising spirits from the dead, all that stuff (zombie movies, RE, they're fine because it's logically theoritical and entertaining)

But I'm not afraid that tommorrow I'm going to wake up wanting to like raise the dead nad make a pentagram to summon them, or whatever. I just mean that watching it and being exposed to hurts and bothers me, makes me feel uncomfortable and I know it's not helping or right to watch.

However, at the same time, I know that Satan takes advantage of the ''In'' thing and the pop thing that is very attractive, and is very clevar at working his way inside out through Christians this way. In this manner, I mean that he'll try to confuse and make it seem like God's got too many unfair or unjust rules on our lives of what we can or cannot do (kind of like the punk teenager down the road telling you your parents say no all the time because they don't like you when you're only five years old).

And it's only when somehow, you know that this pop thing or ''evil'' thing that is the big thing going on just feels wrong to subject yourself to is it wrong.

But again, that's between you and God.

Personally, I don't think that it's evil. It's about practices that in our world as Christians, we know we were told by God NOT to do, but as long as you don't down the line be like ''oh, I am going to try this out and be using magic and stuff!'' you know you're only in it for the entertainemnt and not subjecting yourself to any spiritual temptation to act against God's law, you're fine.

I know I didn't even give my opinion until towards the end, but I figured that perhaps sharing what I know and feel with the whole ''conscience '' thing might bring you a little insight.

Take this to God, pray about it, and see to what He says to you.

That's all I got to say...

xd I am into Harry Potter. It is a story it is NOT real. I know the whole magic thing and all that good and bad magic thing that is in there. Would I read it with Jesus in the room yep. Why cuz Harry was good he used his magic for good. Here is how I look at it If the wizard world was real then God made them that way. So thus they can't be bad. Moses though under orders from God did "magic". So did many others. "Magic" alone is not bad it is what you do with it.

Actually the Harry Potter series is a christian book series..
there's a whole book on all the symbolism and everything too!

buut i haven't read it.

In the 7th book there is a bible verse..i mean there are probably some in the other ones too but that one really stuck out for me.
It was really cool when I found out!

I don't see it as Christian series (and never heard that it was), and I would sure like to see how they are making that connection. I thought I had read somewhere before that the author was into the "white" magic stuff, which is not of God either; although I could be wrong about that.

However, I don't see it as being evil in itself, unless you can't separate fantasy from reality as in the case of that one girl who wanted to be like Harry Potter and cast spells and such. Magic is real, and it can be dangerous.

Moshe did miracles, not magic. Magic is bad. Wicca is bad. Daemons are bad. Books about things like that, well... Since it's fantacy, not, it's not. As long as you can recognise the auther's worldview, you're golden.

I don't think Harry Potter is bad. I think I started reading it sometime in fourth grade. If you believe that it's just fictional, then I don't think there should be any problem.
It has a few morals that aren't bad, like family and sticking up for your friends.
