NOTE: DO NOT READ, IF YOU DON'T WISH TO HAVE THE NEW DIMMU BORGIR ALBUM, IN SORTE DIABOLI, SPOILED FOR YOU... unless you're considering whether it's worth buying.
i downloaded Dimmu Borgir's new album, In Sorte Diaboli, last night. this is ******** amazing music, but not really anything new. it's just like a continuation of Death Cult Armaggeddon, but with Hellhammer (Mayhem, Old Man's Child) as the new drummer. not necissarily a good thing, but not really a bad thing either. DCA wasn't my favorite, but i still loved it. :]
the loss of Nicholas Barker and the newly-recruited Hellhammer has it's ups and downs. the drumming isn't quite as technical, sophisticated, or as fast as it used to be... it's more brutal, but i don't quite think it makes up for those three treates, which i ADORED in Barker's drumming.
it dosen't feel like black metal, it has too much of a generic metal element in it... but it's still far too evil and epic, to be considered generic metal. i suppose, in the long run, Dimmu Borgir dosen't have much more to do for the modern metal scene, except to water down and generalize the black metal sound (which i DON'T consider a good thing).
sorry Dimmu, but i think after your big a** tour, it might be time to throw in the towel... unless you can give my ears an enema with some truely amazing TRUE norwejan black metal, which i have grown to love and accept into my life.
i think the album is a good buy, but certainly not the best buy. if you don't have it already, and you have the opportunity to pick them up, get Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia, the re-recorded/re-released Stormblåst, and/or Enthrone Darkness Triumphant, instead of this album.
your thoughts? (for those who have heard the new album)

Its alright. I downloaded it last night aswell. The only song I can find myself listening to the most is the first track. I dont know.. it seemed to..... MTV... I don't know if that made sence. One track (I don't remember which) had Vortex sounded AWEFUL. And I LOVE Vortex's voice.. Eh.. I don't know. Its ok.. I still love Dimmu, though. They shall stay as one of my top 10 bands.

yeah, i know what you mean.
the first song is good, but it's too much like "commercial black metal", right?
if you like Vortex's voice, check out an avant garde band called Arcturus. it's his side project :]

Black Metal sucks. >_> Except Emperor. >____> Ihsahn, FTW. Anyways, I don't care for Dimmu, I think they've sucked since..Well, ever. ICS Vortex was only good in Borknagar, IMO...But yeah, no chance on me checking this out.

Belphegor is ******** amazing. The Goatreich - Fleshcult is the cd Behemoth wishes they could make. Drudkh is another genius band.
Yeah, what I've heard of the new cd bored the s**t and piss out of me, so I think Dimmu just became split up to me.

I hated Death Cult Armageddon. My poor dad bought it for me from Germany, he didn't know you could just go to best buy and order it... he ended up paying 60$ for it. I really liked Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia though. That one is definitely my favorite. Then again, the only other CD I've heard besides those two is Spiritual Black Dimensions, but I'm not sure if I liked it or not. I listened to it like 5 times but I was asleep through most of it... Speaking of Old Man's Child, what is a good CD from them, besides In Defiance of Existence? I have that one and I love it, I want MORE!

ENTHRONE DARKNESS TRIUMPHANT, and the re-release of STORMBLAST. Want better Old Man's Child? VERMIN. if you took any interest in Vortex's singing, heard on Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia's "Kings of the Carnival Creation", and on Death Cult Armaggeddon's "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse" and "Allehelgens Død I Helveds Rike", check out Arcturus. they're like avant garde/progressive/experimental metal. certainly nothing epic and brutal, but a good listen! 3nodding

Every time I try to get into this band it just doesn't work out. There are bits and pieces that I enjoy, but I can't sit through a whole album from them.
I usually just find myself skipping all the songs that Vortex doesn't sing in. I still don't see why he left Borknagar as vocalist to play full time bass in this band.
The first track ("Serpentine Offering", if I remember right) was damn good though.

The first track ("Serpentine Offering", if I remember right) was damn good though. agreed. he should've stayed with Borknagar. fantastic vocal work, and vantastic bass work. the 4th song, "Sacreligious Scorn" is really good too, but only after about 1 minute and 30 seconds into the song.
