Since its invention, one product has sparked a massive, volatile debate. Friendships have been left in tatters, facebook groups have been devoted to the concept, and regional differences abound...

WHAT DO YOU CALL:

Soda-Pop-Coke-Cola-Etc

In Australia, we call tend to call it soft drink or fizzy drink, unless it is a specific, really well known type, like Coke, Pepsi or Fanta, in which case we just say that!

But I don't like any of it.

I've always known it to be soda. A friend of mine called it Pop once and I had nooooo idea what she was talking about.

I've used both soda and pop, mainly pop. Coke/Cola is a brand name/flavour of soda/pop.

I think it use to be called 'soda pop', then people just got lazy and started to use just one of the words.

I will say, that though I am a "soda" girl.. the LARGE majority of people in my area say "Pop."

It doesn't matter because I don't drink it! xp

I usually call it soda, although my gut reaction is to call it coke. But since I don't actually like Coke, I'm trying to train myself out of it, because people get confused. sweatdrop

Though I grew up in the midwest, all of my family is from the south so I grew up calling it all coke. And I still do when I'm home, but if I'm out with my friends as to not confuse them too much (seeing as that I can't stand Coke products) I will call it cola or soda depending on what comes out of my mouth first. lol

I usually refer to it by the flavour or brand I'm talking about (Coke, Pepsi, ginger ale, 7-up, root beer). When I do talk about carbonated beverages generically, I usually call it "pop", but sometimes "sodapop".

In French, where I'm from we call it "liqueur", which has a totally different meaning in English (and originally).

I'm with abarrach for the most part...if I am going to order something, I call out exactly what I want...
but just talking about them in general...I'm a southern girl, so it's Coke...and no one can break me from the habit (although they have tried!)
