That makes absolutly no sense why scientists would want to change an animals DNA to make it glow. Glowing animals are not normal. I just think it's stupid that they do that. And your poll just made me add something. I think it IS animal abuse because I am almost positive that the animal's glow is harming their bodies in someway. And it could possibly kill them.

I find it as a waste of time, money and experience really... I wonder what would happen if the predator eats the glowing animal. Could it die from food poisoning or mutate into some deformed creature?
I sympathise the creatures... I'm mutant too...
No really! I am! My doctor suggested that I was to drink soymilk. I had soymilk fed to me for three months with rashes, hives and swells all over me. Being allergic to soymilk and having been fed this for three months straight, my DNA was altered (mostly my immune system ). This made me allergic to multiple things...
Though there are some nasty drawbacks, there are some positives to it too. I am immune to some poisons and poison ivy....
Anyways, I hope there are some positives for the creatures who where made glowy...

Well, we have glowing mice in our labs. I can't explain the reason behind glowing butterflies and insects. However, glowing mice are done but integrating a copy of the Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) tagged gene in the animal's genome. Now, why make glowing green mice? Cancer research for one. MOuse cells are not the same as human cells or cancer cells. We inject the green mice with cancer cells to see the pattern of metastasis or how the cancer will move and migrate through the body. Mouse cells will glow and the cancer cells won't.
It's one of the things I learned during the Genetics portion of the Molecular Cell Biology class a couple of months ago... xd Hah!. I wrote a lot... SOrry if I mistyped something. I got baka around me...

Yeah. I must admit that glowing animals are fun to stare at (pretty colors) but it does not seem 'morally correct' to mutate them for no reason (unless they are for researching purposes such as the mice) sweatdrop . I never knew mice were made glowy!
P.S. Yes, I am slightly mutant due to the soy milk.

The artical about the fish is only telling part of the story. the glowing fish started out as a research project into the development and use of internal organs, such as the heart, and lungs. the fish glow, and because of their translucent nature, you can see all their insides without harming, or interfering with the fish itself. Later, they realized that glowing fish are kinda cool, and since they'd been studying them for so long, and noticed no ill effects on the fish, they decided to sell them as pets. cool
