Since the subject has come up, I decided to make this an official poll for discussion! When 15-nin Musume was divided into Sakura and Otome Gumi, a great many fans felt that the more popular singers were placed in Sakura Gumi...
But the good-natured debate still goes on. My $.02: their styles were so disparate, I think it really comes down to which members you like better! As a staunch Yossie and Marippe fan, I have to stick by Sakura Gumi, although two of my other favorites (Kaorin and Reina) were in Otome. Decisions, decisions!
So what does everyone else think?

sakura gumi all the way.
i don't think the more popular singers were put into SG since both tsuji and kaorin were in OG but i think better singers were put in sakura gumi for most part.
probably because they weren't singing the bouncy super happy songs, but slow ballads which probably called for different voices...plus i'm a HUGE hitomi fan so yeah.

I personally like the Sakura Gumi songs better, but I think I liked the members in Otome Gumi more...

i liked the change of style the sakura gumi songs had.
the otome gumi songs where pretty much things morning musume has always done.

The songs Otome Gumi had were a bit...yeah. And what's with all those "showing bare shoulders, could possibly be nekkid" stuff anyways? Not saying that Otome Gumi sucks or anything but Sakura Gumi had the deeper and better songs. And of course...me being a Gaki fan makes me love Sakura Gumi even more. xd

I love them both! It's fun thinking up names for the Otomegumi girls, though. (they aren't exactly nice names, either...) if you think about it, it seems like they're all of Momusu's "others"; Kago's lesser half (Tsuji), the girl who had to audition twice to get in (Reina), the tall, foreign looking one (Kaori), The shy one who never tried to call attention to herself (Makoto), the 6th generation vanity case (Sayu-chan), the reluctant ex-soloist (miki), and the cute one iwth the iffy voice (rika).
Needless to say, these are extremely shallow classifications. And i don't mean anything insulting by them. how could i, since makoto and Rika are both included?

Red the Usagi I love them both! It's fun thinking up names for the Otomegumi girls, though. And i don't mean anything insulting by them. how could i, since makoto and Rika are both included? wow that was a brilliant observation i totally agree with you. i loved sakura-gumi more because it had such cute people. i mean...honestly none of those girls have sex appeal stare . and they are all good at ballads

Now that I've thought about it, I think that it was smart of Tsunku to put the "less popular" girls into otomegumi. Because, if they had been in a group with the more popular members, they wouldn't have had as much a chance to shine. Since there weren't any super popular members in their group, everyone really got to show their talent equally.

I like Sakura Gumi better for songs. But, for outfits...I like Otome Gumi's (The Black and White ones). ...Yeh. I've liked Skura Gumi from the start, before I really knew any of the members well, so my opinion isn't really member-based. It's just the songs XD But, I'd still agree now.

I really liked Sakura Gumi better because of the songs. I love their song Sakura Mankai, the setting of the music video was so amazingly done and beautiful.

Otome Gumi means "Young girl group" and Sakura gumi means "cherry blossom group"
