I'm interested in what makes you start read a book the front page, recommendations or anything else? I always look on the text on the backside of the book but the front page maters too. Some people just look at the front page. Any reason I've forgotten?

Typically, I choose the books I want to buy online, by reading the synopsis and the reviews. I find that the first few pages of the book don't always set the tone for the rest of the story. Recommendations by friends or professors are also helpful.

For me it's just if I've heard good things about it, or if it's a classic. I guess it's just if I'm familiar with what it's about and if it's supposed to be good. Recently I've found lots of lists of books, like "Time's All-time 100 Novels" or Dr. Peter Boxall's "1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die" on listofbests.com and I've been working through them. I very rarely just pick up a book on a whim.

Usually it's a combination of the front cover and how interested I am after reading the first page or two.

I will generally read the plot sypnosis first when looking for something new to read. I mean, it has to be of interest to the reader, right? If I am at home or have access to a computer, I will also look at reviews on places like Amazon in order to gage the level of its recommendation.

I read the title. If it's interesting, I'll read the back of the book. If I still like it, I'll read the first few pages to the first chapter. If it passes, I'll read it.

if it has a fun title, or the cover catches my eye. I know the saying 'don't judge a book' but i don't like reading the back

I read the back of the book. Or if the title/cover is interesting, I'll take a look at it and decide if I want to buy it or not. [That's how I found Uglies which is one of my favorite books of all time now. heart ]

For me, the title and cover influence me a lot (don't judge a book by it's cover xd ) also, I love reading books I and other people haven't heard of before(dunno why). And I love playing with those search engine things in libraries. Looking up a book I like and clicking other books by that author, then clicking one of the subject things, fun xd

I won't admit how much time I have spent doing just that very thing. One can find interesting reads that way.

The cover and title have a role in if I chooise a book, I'll then read the little thing that tells you a bit about the story, and if that's good then I'll check it out.

First thing I check for is an interesting looking cover. For the most part, if I like the look of a cover, I tend to like the book itself.
Then, I read the back of the book/inside cover (if it's a hardcover). If I like the sound of it, I read it.
Either/both of those things.
