Do you think that they will include pets such as Gwees and Shadow spirits
in the new system if so wouldnt those who carry around 10 at a time have an advantage?

Pets and other items will be for appearance only. If the Ring system is still going to be used then our current items will not have an impact on the mechanics of the Battle System.
Your appearance in the Battle System will likely be separate from the abilities you have. Now this doesn't mean we won't be able to match up abilities and appearance ourselves. I'm actually looking forward to that.

But then again I think it would be better if they didn't. In fact, I think it would be better if somehow Gaia made only certain, non monthly collectable items the functional items in the Battle Sytsem, making it fairer for everyone.

Yes you will keep them. Think of them like Fishing Rods or Garden Shovel, except you won't wear them on your Avatar like you can the Shovel.
We have been informed that we will get a basic set when the Battle System opens. Outside of that there will very likely be a shop where we can buy other rings. There will also likely be event or quest Rings.
I don't have any knowledge about customizing, combing, or modifying Rings themselves. The point is that they define and modify your stats and abilities in the Battle System.
The convention schedule has been announced and I've really been waiting for the Cons. This is where we should see what's going on with the Battle System and with Gaia in general. I'd even like to get myself to one if I can.
