The Specifics of the ContestAs the overview says, illustrate a song. You may choose to attack this however you see fit. For example, you may choose to illustrate a song based on its lyrics, or you may choose to illustrate based on the title of the song; you maybe choose a song without lyrics and see where the music takes you or you may choose a theme song of a movie/TV show and illstrate a scene from it based on the song. Whatever, just do it. That means you can choose a song in any genre, as long as you can provide a link to the song (not just the lyrics, the actual song). You can find songs on websites myspace music, or you may provide a link to the music video on you-tube. You may choose any type of traditional media for this, whether it be graphite, charcoal, colorpencil, acrylic paint, oil paint, pen and ink, paper cutout, or collage (or whatever else you can think of). Computer program may ONLY be used to edit raw scans or photos of the drawing/painting (i.e. resizing, color contrast, etc). How to enterJust fill out this form, post in this thread Name: # of Posts in the guild: Url of submission: (url only, please) Song used: (name of song, name of artist/composer) Artist's statment: (although not required, you should still write a few sentence to tell us why you did what you did) Judging/PrizeThis might sound a little confusing. Once all the entry is in on March 10, the judging process will begin and will last a week. All member should participate in the judging. This is how it'll work. You, as a member, will send the guild mule, traditional artist, a PM. In the PM, you will include which piece do you think deserves to win and why. It doesn't need to be an essay, just keep it short and simple. Since only the Captain and the mod (2 people) have access to the mule account, no names of voter will be given out, strickly confidential. There will also be a poll voting in this thread if the entries does not exceed more than 10 entries. At the end of the judging week, All of votes will be tallied and results will be posted. The piece with the most amount of vote will win. And a rule for judging, please DO NOT vote for yourself when you're sending the pm.

Questions you may have answered here
Q: Why is the guild hosting a contest? A: We want to get more people involved and contests are just generally cool mrgreen
Q: Why is the grand prize only 25k? A: The point of this contest isn't to make someone rich, but to get people to pick up their pencils and brushes. Besides, 25k is probably a lot of gold to most of us.
Q: How many pieces can I enter? A: As many as you want, but remember, quality over quantity.
Q: Can I enter something I drew for [insert whatever here]? A: No, you need an original piece made specifically for this contest.
Q: How do I check how many posts I have in this guild? A: There's a button at the top of the page that says "guild members". Click on that and search for your name and it will tell you how many posts you have.
Q: What if i don't have more than 5 posts? A: Make some posts before you send your submission in. Just don't spam, k? There's a lot of different topics you can post in.
Q: Can I invite a few non guild members to join the contest? A: This is for guild members only, so if they join the guild first, they can join the contest.
Q: [insert member name here] has the same song I do! A: That's totally fine. We can get 2 different interpretations for 1 song.

Well, we all draw a blank sometimes. Have no fear, Captain's here! Below is a list of songs that your Captain thinks might help out. You can just use these songs to get yourself going (kinda like warm ups) or you can just pick one of these songs to use for your entry. Some of these songs you can find on myspace music or you-tube videos, if you can't, you can always download them.

Entriesin the flicker. Name: Heather # of Posts in the guild: 396 (now) Url of submission: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/50501252/ Song used: Ben Folds Five "Smoke" lyricsArtist's statment: first entry! w00t! but seriously, it's pretty heavy with symbolism. if you listen to the song, you'd probably get it. Doug of Akkad This is the piece... it's not illustrative or narrative and until I can find somewhere to upload the .mp3 it's pretty meaningless... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v205/cro-magnon/West-Croydon-Bus-Station.jpg The song is 'Mission Statement' by Blueprint, but it could have been Cannibal Ox really... a song that evokes, for me, the coldness of my city. euclids_triangle Hmmm... I'm going to go ahead and enter since it's not too late. wink Remixes count, I'm hoping? Name: euclids_triangle # of Posts in the guild: 237 Url of submission: http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/50594179/ Song used: Anthem of a Misguided Youth OCREMIX by chthonic Artist's statment: The little sounds of young Link in the song have always made me laugh. They've also urged on my desire to draw him.

Dirty_sox3 should i sit out of this one? or should i actually squeeze time and do something for it? *scratches head* and i can't believe it took me over an hour to type everything up sweatdrop you should sit out, because you'll win. just kidding, you should totally do it if you want. bah, illustrating a song?! i have a question: much of the time, when i hear a song, i don't think of what's going on in the song, i think more of what it conveys to me, which is usually something completely irrelevant and/or unrecognizable. if i'm going to do this (not sure yet, to be honest), can i do what i would naturally do, or should i try to make it more relevant to the song itself? and...i don't have access to the mule (not sure if you ever gave it to me, or i might have lost it). i (stupidly) PMed the mule about it. but yeah, bringing it up now smile
