I post my art in a few art communities around the web such as deviantart, storm artists, etc. Half the time i spent on these websites I'm lurking. I normally don't like to comment on people's stuff because 1. all the obvious things will be said 5 million times and 2. I don't want to spend time and energy on critiques that people don't want to hear about their art. But that's not what I'm here to talk about.
I usually browse through the "top favorites" of the day, especially on DA. As I'm browsing through, there's one thing that I noticed (well, maybe more than one thing) is the amount of favs some of the crappy drawings have. Okay people, just because the guy's not wearing a shirt, doesn't mean that he's hot. Use your eyes and look, the body's out of proportion, the lighting is wayyyy off, and it looks like he's about to fall over. But what do people do? "ZOMGOMGOMGOMGOMG HE'S SOOOO FREAKIN' HOT <3<3<3<3<3<3 xXOXOXOXOXOX *FAV* *FAV* *FAV*" well, you get the point.
Now i'm exagerating and generallizing stuff here, but you know how it is. Just because she's got huge boobs doesn't make her sexy. Just because she/he has big shinny eyes doesn't mean he/she is the most adorable thing in the world. Just because it's your favorite anime/manga character, doesn't mean that you have to be a fav whore. Take some time to look at what's actually in the drawing.
*is done ranting*

i pretty much know exactly what you're talking about. i mean, how can they think these disproportionate (and most of the time slightly or largely disfigured) drawings are worthy of such accolade? i mean, i've noticed this with my own drawings. 90% of the time, people don't care about skill, intent, or any of the fundementals of art: all they care about is something which they deem "cute." i understand that it needs to be visually appealing to get comments, but considering these are communites full of other artists that the people there would care about whether or not the composition is completely unbalanced, the shading is all over the place, or the proportions are totally off. but no, they don't. all they want is skin.
@euclid: that is pretty disturbing and i'm really glad i've not been witness to that particular fad sweatdrop

@Cap'n: *coughSasukecoughcough* xd Yeah, over done. Definitely.
@Kirio: Ahhh, to have a period in art where such things as proportion and realism were far more appreciated than things "cute." Da Vinci is rolling in his grave right now at today's art, I'm sure. I mean, "cute" has its place, but there's too much.

Saddly, many of my friends fall into that catagory, and no matter how much I try to convince them, they just look at me and say things like "Well, I'm not an artist so I don't care" and "It's just not trippy enough for you."
It annoys me to no end, where I can't even have a basic discussion without them critisizing my "snobby-ness" for not liking badly drawn/painted art that they like because it's "sexy".
I'm sick of all my friends who always ask me why I don't draw anime or are always telling me to draw fanart... Or they spaz about how amazing a fanart is, and they think impressionism is just "too weird"...
Ugh... Pregg0rz fandom...it SCARES ME...You know what scares me even more? Inflation and stuffors... That stuff is just...*shudder*

well, i do love fan art, but only the well done ones. i just don't like browsing through someone's gallery with A TON of pageview because all they do is crappy fan art. and i can be a fan girl along with the rest of the world, but my..."standard" for what's a good drawing is *slightly* higher than most people
oh, and another thing i hate, CAT GIRLS! gawddamn.

i sort of like fan art. i love well-drawn fan art, but unfortunately most fan art seems to be either a) poorly drawn b) a copy/tracing of a picture already in print, or c) extremely disturbing, like those people who make aerith and tifa gay with each other. i mean, i have zero problem with homosexuals (being one myself), but when artists make up things like that, i find myself disturbed and/or revolted.
i will say, however, that skill may not be the *most* important thing all the time. even if it's lacking in shading or proportions, i'll still give props to a good concept, pose, color, or something else which is really pretty amazing.
hm...what really bothers me? i really dislike the anime where the eye shows through the hair, so it's like the eye is on top of the hair. it's unnatural.

I just hate the fact that the only art my friends seem to appriciate is fanart...It seems one of the only really popular artists are fanartists...
I like looking at fanart, but as cap't said, I like it well done...
Anyone ever stumble on horridly drawn hentai? THATS disturbing, especialy when it's underrated, and labeled as something else. crying

I'm not fond of most impressionism pieces (Monet is still awesome), but it's nowhere near as "weird" as modern "art" can be nowadays. I swear, I could've sold one of my brothers paintings that he did when he was 3 for at least $300 with the way today's stuff goes. xd When art is just for art's sake and is without true inspiriation and motivation, I really tend to dislike it. I like to be able to tell what I'm looking at without trying too hard. And when I'm trying to read the artist's mind, I give up.
But, aye, if there's going to be a popular piece of fanart, I'd prefer it tastefully done and with good technique.
I get annoyed with the homo-pairings that fangirls (usually.. Haven't seen too many males do this) make up just because they think it's "cute." The Aerith/Tifa thing is one, Cloud/Sephiroth/Zack is another.The whole Axel/Roxas/Demyx/Riku/Sora/Xemnas/Saix thing is just... xp
Catgirls can get annoying... There's just too many that are too much alike. Buxom ditzes, usually. And don't get me started on the whole Make-Their-Boobs-Ten-Sizes-Larger thing. Oh, yeah, and there must always be nipplage.
*sigh* I usually try to steer clear of hentai, though, so all of my knowledge comes from what I've unknowingly stumbled upon.

Haha.. That's what I meant, maybe I shoulda made myself clear... The accidental hentai that also just happens to be horridly drawn... It's terrifying.
I get annoyed by most non-cannon pairings, period... I get even more annoyed when I say I don't like a gay pairing and then I get accused of being homophobic... It's even more offensive to start seeing and pairing all the guys/girls as gay... -_-;

speaking of hentai: another thing i really dislike is anime that borders on hentai. it's not exactly hentai, but it's definately way too sexual to be just normal anime. but in general, hentai makes me die a little inside, especially this new fetishy hentai (which i had the misfortune to stumble upon while lurking about some art community, might have been DA, i wouldn't doubt it) with the girls all decapitated/dismembered and/or stuffed into small areas. it's just creepy!
-shudders-
@euclid: hex yeah Monet is awesome. i like this paintings of people better than his landscapes, though. his landscapes, though, are pretty amazing.

on the subject of hentai and anime being on the border of it, you ever seen some of those shows where they have 12~14 year old girls with D-cups? just a bit disturbing. then you have some 22 year old spying on these girls....=_=;;
oh, and you know what else i'm just sick of? gaara x rock lee and naruto x sasuke yaoi. over done, sick, gross, these people should never end up together, not even in your dreams, just leave them be.

What bothers me the most is I have a frind on DA who spent hours on this one drawing then she did a drawing of Grr off of Invader Zim and she had more attention on the Grr then the one she put her heart and soul into.
I don't mind the guy on guy as long as it has meaning and yes the Naruto x Saske and the Rock lee and what ever his face is, does gett annoying. I don't see anything wrong with same sex pictures as long as it's more then "OMFG THAT'S SO HOT!!!' I did a same sex pictrure of two girls to fight back at the guy on guy things, and it had meaning and everything to it, but all I got was 'That's discusting and wrong and perverted' yet the half nakid guys in bed togeather isn't. Mine drawing wasn't even perverted for crying out loud. I see nothing wrong with same sex love drawings as long as it's about love, not sex...
and yes the girls with D-cups, lol please that's just and eye rolling moment rolleyes But I guess since most anime comic readers are young boys they can only dream right?

I think it's sad that people find hand drawn cartoons hot rolleyes especially the female characters..cause they're so unrealistic...huge boobs and skinny legs and such...no woman could ever be like that and it just makes guys want women to be "perfect".
