I AM! scream
I play the clarinet and would LOVE to play jazz, but my teachers won't let me.
so then I swictched to the trumpet.
they STILL would'nt let me play jazz
so I switched to the sax.
I think my teachers just hate me xp
but seriously?
clarinets in jazz bands?
for or against?

We don't have jazz clarinets either. I love jazz clarinets, but not for every song. I wish we had them for at least a few, though. Jazz flutes are awesome, too. 3nodding

WE have them in our jazz band. But, we have areally wierd jazz band there are 3 trombones about 5-6 trumpets altos tenors and one bari sax plus 2 clarinets 3 flutes a tuba and a bass clarinet. XD

I DEFENATLY think clarinets should b n jazz band! It's a major jazz instrument, and take a look at Benny Goodman, the awesomest jazz clarinetist EVER!!!Yup, clarinets n jazz band is a must!

they call themselves the lunateers
made up of mostly 11th and 12th graders.

I like good clarinets in a jazz band, that you can hear. :XP: In a few modern concert band pieces, the clarinet has really jazz-y stuff. 3nodding Song and Dance by Saucedo has a great clari solo.
We were visited by a jazz band with 2 altos, 4 tenors, 1 soprano, 1 bari, two flutes, and three clarinets for a certain song. That was a little crazy. sweatdrop

My feelings on if you want to play clarinet in jazzband is you have to learn to improv/solo. Same goes for flute as well, if your a great improvisor/soloist then you shouldnt have problems getting into jazzband. If your just reading music then it's kinda pointless. We let flutes into our jazzband in highschool because they were great improv/soloists.

we have a clarinet that plays second tenor because the second tenor is on drumset. and you can hear him, sorta. i myself am filling 4th trumpet on flute, but of course you can't hear me for crap. i'd prefer to learn the damn instrument but don't have the time. and the other thing is that i completely suck at improv and soloing. i feel pretty useless most of the time except as a transcriber for saxes reading flute parts...
pretty much since youre most likely in a sizable band you won't be let in as easily or maybe your bd is just a b***h.

well, I can improv.
very well actually, thats all I really do.
thats what I did for my audition to get into my senior concert band, and I made it,
and I know I can play jazz.

None of our saxes {and this includes me} know how to play.
