I am going to read the book and know it will be better than the movie, but I think you posted this in the wrong subforum.

The books are okay. When I was younger I used to adore them. Now they've just become light reading.
I heard from my sister that the movie is positively horrendous. Knowing she's an excellent judge in things such as this, I shall take her advice and not see it. I want to preserve the pretty image I have of the series in my mind.

In my opinion, the book easily dominates the movie. The movie in my eyes was terrible; they tried to crush too many things into an hour and a half long movie. They could have gone after a Lord of the Rings style movie trilogy and made it longer to have more content, but it seems rushed.
There are many mistakes in the movie, as I've seen on moviemistakes.com, not to mention the fact that the story was mauled in many more ways than I'd like to type right now. I don't think I'll be seeing the other movies; personally, I just want the third book to come out.

I can't read the books without wincing. He really is a brilliant young man, but his books display a heaping mess of influence and almost outright plagiarism from several popular authors. It's like Tolkien, Jordan, and Starwars combined.
Even look at the character names. Eragon and Arya. Remind you of anyone? (Hint: another elf/man coupling.)
EDIT: Although, I do have to take some of the burden off of him by admitting that it's rather difficult to write a completely original fantasy book, these days. Tolkien has practically laid down the rules.

The book was so much better than the movie. Not only did it have a better storyline, but the characters were more developed and interesting. I find it odd that they used a skinny white boy to play Eragon in the movie when he was described as a tan, muscular boy with dark hair (this disappointed me very much).

Actually, I liked them both equally. The book had it's good points, such as, you know, it was AMAZING, but on the other hand, it kind of dragged and took me a long time to read. I couldn't make it through the first chapter of Elder for that reason.
The movie was a stunted version of the book, much like LotR. I, however, made loud 'AWWES' along with the rest of the crowd when Saphira hatched. I thought the graphic designers did a rather good job on the dragon, even though she seemed a little too. . . fluffy? Most importantly, though. . . those guys were gorgeous. sweatdrop

I haven't seen the movie, but I love the book. I heard how horrible it was from a few friends. Wiki actually has a list of all the things the movie did wrong. o.O
Anyway, yes the book was very good. Maybe not terribly original but it had me hooked the whole way though, no dull spots. ^^

For the book, all I have to say is that it is a load of barbarous garbage. A hodgepodge of modern fantasy fixtures, garnished with some sci-fi. Sheer idiocy wrapped up in delightful language. It's a total ripoff of Lord of the Rings, Dragonriders of Pern and Star Wars. The elves were vegetarians and aethiests. Can someone please tell me what is up with that?!
And the movie? Eurgh. I was disgusted. Although baby Saphira certainly was cute.

The books were awesome, but the movie sucked. Especially the prt when Saphira goes from baby to adult.

I loved the books. I'm a total book-worm, and I sped through the adventure in like, two days. Everyone is right about how it's hard to come up with an original fiction/fantasy story, but he's so young, it's only natural that he was influenced by other great authors. He also took a quote from "Blazing Saddles" and twisted it a bit. Ever hear someone say, "Badges?! We don't need no stinking BADGES!"? Well, something like that was said as Roran was taking the villagers to Surda and all he got as transportation was a couple of barges. One of the villagers says. "Barges?! We don't want no STINKING barges!"
sweatdrop As you can see, I'm totally in love with Eragon, as well as Eldest.
I've never seen the movie. I've already critiqued the commercials for it. They totally ruined Arya, and it looks like Saphira has feathers... Which is probably okay, since birds are decendants of reptiles, but... My imagination is -way- better. xd

I will say this though. Whenever a character would talk, I would see a quotation mark at the beginning of the paragraph, but not at the end.

That's because they weren't done talking, so just keep reading their quotes, and you'll see the quotation mark at the end, but not at the beginning because that's the quotations for all their speech. So I guess it would not have the quotations for the actions, instead it would have a comma for it, after the speech, which would mean they're moving or acting while talking...
But, I don't know. *shrugs* I don't know if that made sense to you, but it sounded good in my brain. XDD
